This dissertation focuses on the interaction between state and cultural development since China initiated reform and opening policy. The profound reform from planned economy to market economy, which has happened in Chinese society since 1980s, is transferring Chinese cultural development from the politics and culture combination model to the economy and culture integration model. Culture has been shifted from government monopoly to being part of social life. Essential changes have been taken place in the pattern of culture production. The pattern of culture administration under planned economy system has been turned into industry pattern under market economy. During this process, the organization of culture production has been transformed from national administrative departments to social, self-discipline production units, cultural professionals from governmental cadres to free talents, investment on cultural industry from governmental politics-oriented way to profit-oriented practices, the role of government in cultural production from administrator to protector. The changes of governmental role in cultural industry development reflected the deviation trend of governmental structural function from social function. This theme involves multi-subject trans-study in literature, politics, economics and sociology and their specific study ways. It's assumed to make contributions to enrich and improve the development of literary aesthetics, literary politics, literary sociology, as well as literary economics.
