The dissertation is a study of western Post-Colonial Literary Theroy from four perspectives. On the one hand, it is a comparatively complete introduction to Post-Colonial Literary Theory, and on the other hand, it tries to throw some new light on the topic: how to study Post-Colonial theory and use it to do some literary criticism in China. The dissertation brings forth new things in the study of Post-Colonial theory: Firstly, it makes a most comprehensive, systematic and special study of Post-Colonial Literary theory up to now; it gives a rather clear meaning of Post-Colonial Literary Theory after analysing arguments around it; it puts cultural and historic logic of colonialism, Post-Colonialism, neo-colonialism in order. The research analyses Orientalism by three stages and discovers four eras of culture: those of Symbiotic culture, Colonial culture, Post-Colonial culture and Game culture. At the same time, this dessertation has many insights in analysing characteristics of colonial discourse and its traps, in analysing the "Cultural Shadow Play" through new-colonialism. Secondly, it is the first attempt to interpret Post-Colonial Literary Theory from the angle of perspectives, not only putting forth a new methodology for Post-Colonial Literary Theory studies, but also deepening the study of the theory. Thirdly, it binds four perpectives(time, space, subject and discourse)colosely together and carries out them with clear inner logic. And finally, most of the English sources involved in this dissertation are translated from the original works by the author to provide more infortation for reader to do further research. In summary, this dissertation is not merely a panorama of Post-Colonial Literary Theory, but also a tentative idea to human civilization from the angle of Post-Colonial theory. Any choice of perspevtives only expects to. penetrating through and surpass them in the end.
