Southeastern Coast China is the geographic and cultural center of primitive cultures that worshiped birds, Since 7000 years ago the image of bird has become an important theme of primitive art of this area. During 3000 years development, the image of bird held the core statues in primeval art, and it had a great impact on the building of cultural tradition and art conception as a regional culture model.Regards time as item and space as outline, the article makes a thorough collection and arrangement of various bird images material of archaeological cultures of Ningbo & Shaoxing area and Tai Lake region. Based on archaeology material, it makes a complete analysis on the exterior structure and deep-seated function system of the bird images; it also expounds the author's own cognizance and viewpoint. The full text is divided into four chapters.Chapter one reviews and evaluates the history and present condition of the investigation, it brings out the aim and value of the investigation. According to the characters of the investigation and the existing problems, it also makes necessary elucidation to several noticeable problems.Chapter two combs the bird image material of the primitive cultures in Southeastern Coast China thoroughly, which is based on the archaeology information with definite time and space data. It also pays attention to lots of wares handed down.Regards every archeology culture as a unit, Chapter three analyzes the bird image material in the way of archeology typology. To guarantee the usefulness of analysis, the article reviews the present periodization of archeology cultures by using the common potteries as the typical vessels, and it establishes the evolution process and the time-space frame of each archeology culture. After analyzing Hemudu culture, post-Hemudu culture, Majiabang culture, Songze culture and Liangzhu culture from the two aspects of the vessel formation and the graphics character, the dissertation sums up the logic evolvement order and rules of exterior form of bird images, and explains the change of its form by combining the successive relationship between different kinds of archeology cultures.In Chapter four, based on the analysis result in the surface form structure of the bird images, the dissertation places the bird image material in a particular archeology background, and referring to the ethnology, history philology and the mythology, it emphasizes the content and the function of the bird image and mainly clarifies several viewpoints as the follows.Firstly, Hemudu culture is the origin of bird adoration in Southeastern Coast China. During that period, the bird adoration existed continuously with its relatively stable shape construction and elements. The identity agrees with the culture development sequence of various closely conjoint cultures of this region, it reflects that southeast China has the identity as the ancient bird adoration culture center.Secondly, the content and function of bird adoration of different cultures inSoutheastern Coast China has different characters in different stages: In early period, for example, in the first and the second stage of the Hemudu culture, man's worship to the bird mainly incarnated on the super realistic imagination in bird and the consciousness of spirit worship; In the middle stage, namely in the third and fourth stage of the Hemudu culture and the contemporaneous Majiabang-Songze culture, the emphasis of man's worship to bird transformed from the wizardry symbolistic emblem in early period to the practical experience emblem; In later period, in Liangzhu culture, the bird adoration was sanctified and ritualized, its track of imitating the apotheosis not only shows that the bird adoration idea gradually became abundant and mature as a kind of culture tradition, but also reflects the history trend of natural person converting to personal nature of the creative idea of bird images.Thirdly, after analyzing the nature of the commensal round patterns of the bird images, the article conforms the patterns is...
