This dissertation, based on the comprehensive observation on comparison and differentiation of Relationship between Chinese and western poems and paintings, and basic pattern of traditional Chinese poems and paintings by means of comparative study and language study, explores the cause of merging relationship of Chinese poems and paintings with methodology of cultural sociology and historical theories. Although the merging of Chinese poems and paintings has such congenital factors as the perceptive consistency between language and paintings and medium between brush, ink and paper, and calligraphy as well as those postnatal factors as the social function and aesthetic pursuit of poems and paintings, its deepest cause lies in the broad and profound culture and thought of the Chinese nation. The world outlook of time and space united as one, artistic viewpoint of interaction between mind and objects and cultural viewpoint of harmony and unity make Chinese poems and paintings go toward integration. With thoughts of Confucianists, Taoists and Buddhists as mental framework, those scholars wandering at two ends of life completely connect poems with paintings in form and contents.
