Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan, both romantic gifted scholars, understanding music well, are two very influential persons in the development of theCi history originating in the Song Dynasty. Their cis' harmonious rules and forms, telling romantic stories gracefully and restrained have gained them nearly the same great high praise. By this, Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan are classified into the same school by the scholars in the following dynasty. Otherwise, they are sorted into two totally different schools from the perspective of Ci's elegance or vulgarity, which has been the long time existing distinction in Ci's development, and because of this, they have extremely different social positions among the orthodox scholars in the feudal society. It is the similarity and the difference of their cis that merit deeper study by putting them together according to the view of being accepted by readers in history. With this, guided by the western acceptance theory of aesthetics, this thesis retraces and studies the acceptance of their cis from one dynasty to the following one. This thesis has six chapters. The first chapter studies their cis' being accepted in Beisong Dynasty. The second chapter studies their cis' being acceptance in Nansong Dynasity. In the third chapter, their cis' being accepted in Jin Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty is studied. The fourth chapter studies the acceptance of their cis in Ming Dynasty with the situation of their acceptance in Qing Dynasty in the fifth and sixth chapters. Furthermore, in each chapter, some cis written by Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan and some comments on their cis and the influence of their cis on other scholars' writing, are selected to analyze the acceptance of cis of Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan by readers. In Beisong Dynasty, the cis of Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan are very popular with a large number of common prople. But among the orthodox scholars, their cis have a different fate. The cis of Liuyong are praised by the orthodox scholars who like the cis' elegance and hate its vulgarity. The cis of Zhou Bangyan do not have such fortune-they are not recognized by the orthodox scholars.Their cis in the people of Nansong are still very popular. Orthodox scholars attack the style of expression and the vulgarity of the cis of Liuyong more sharply than that in Beisong Dynasty. They recognize the content of reflecting the peace and the method of painting realistically in Liuyong's work. Their view agrees with the Beisong Dynasty's praise of elegance and hatred of vulgarity in cis. These scholars and critics had praised the words, the tonality, and the writing techniques of the cis from Zhou Bangyan. With further study, cis from Zhou Bangyan (Qingzhen Ci) had gained more and more reputation and had impacted the cis writing in Nansong Dynasty! The distinction between elegance and vulgarity of Ci in Jin Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty is very evident. The vulgarity of the cis of Liuyong and the elegance of that of Zhou Bangyan are emphasized so to make a great gap between their cis and even to decide their influence on the fields and content of literature in Jin Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty.Praising the cis of Liuyong and Zhou Bangyan is the mainstream of Ming Dynasty manifested in the selected works, evaluation on cis and cis' being used as reference. Theidea of "emphasis on affection" cover the gap between the vulgarity of Liuyong's ci and the elegance of Zhou Bangyan. Wang Shizhen, even considers that the consummation of the cis written by Liuyong is greater than that of Zhou Bangyan.Constant changes are kept on in the field of Ci in Qing Dynasty. Each theory of Ci in each book has its own merits and keeps on going with times. In other words, the theory of Ci changes along with the birth, the booming and the downfall of one dynasty. When time goes to the evening of Qing Dynasty for Wang Guowei to publish his book ?Ci Poetry in Society', the comments, made by Wang Guowei, are based on western and eastern philosophical theories and literature ideas. According to Chinese traditional ci steps, his comments are f...
