As a distinguished scholar in late Qing Dynasty, Sun Yi Rang has abundant writings in his life and has made great achievements in both philology and exegetical studies. Nowadays, since exegetes' emphasis is laid on the restoration and research of classical documents, systematic restudy on predecessors' achievements has not been on the time schedule yet, systematic and thorough research on Sun Yi Rang's exegeses has not appeared both in home and abroad . The author of this dissertation tries to work hard on 35 books written by Sun Yi Rang , which focus on Confucian classics, the philosophers of pre-Qin Period, philology, inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells, epigraphy, collation, etc., and which mainly involve the Confucian classics, the philosophers of pre-Qin Period and collation such as Zha Yi, Zhou Shu Jiao Bu, Da Dai Li Ji Jiao Bu, Jiu Qi Gu Yi Shu, Shang Shu Pian Zhi, Mo Zi Jian Gu, Zhou Li Zheng Yi, comb and summarize both the exegetical theory and method that Sun Yi Rang applied for the research of ancient documents, compare them with both traditional exegetical theories and methods and other great exegetical scholars' thoughts of Qing Dynasty; and then, the author will sum up the contributions of Sun Yi Rang, offer a comparative investigation and study on Sun Yi Rang and other scholars' achievements in exegetics and collation ,at the same time, rectify those printing and punctuating errors in Sun Yi Rang's works of Zhong Hua Shu Ju's edition. The author points out that the work mentioned above will provide some useful materials and proofs for the solving of some problems appeared in ancient documents ,and offer some references for the study of history of Chinese language, etc.The whole dissertation is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on theory. The author will give a summarization of Sun Yi Rang's research methods and materials from his thoughts on exegetics, the relation between pronunciation and meaning ,the relation between form and meaning, etc. ; The second part will be a discussion of author with interested scholars. In this section, the author will write down some reading notes , offer some supplements, and have discussion with other exegetes. The significance and value of this dissertation will lie in a direct or indirect promotion of the academic research on Sun Yi Rang, the provision of basic data for theoretical construction of exegetical studies. Since there are large quantities of materials in Sun Yi Rang' exegetical works, it is quite difficult for the author of this dissertation to make very deep and complete study in a short period of time, therefore, many problems will be left by the author to solve in the coming days.
