Zhu Xi, as a master of the Song Dynasty, in the process of constructing his ideological system of jurisprudence, also attached great importance to the language Exegesis, language authenticity. He also completed numerous Confucian classics variorum, set justice and collections. Zhu called on seeking truth from facts, and he also had the courage to challenge the old and adhered the spirit of innovation. He had inherited the simple style of neo-Confucianists of Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, paying attention to the ancient objects from the Exegesis, and he also made a new fusion of the spirit of the times, thereby created a unique style of the times Scholium.Zhu studied extensively across many Confucian classics. This thesis adopts five representative of the classic "Notes", with the reference to the quotation on the nature, describes deeply and detailedly ZhuXi's Exegesis content and the use of Exegetical methods and the principle of Exegesis that he followed. What's more, this thesis also makes a comprehensive and objective assessment of the achievements and shortcomings summed up by Zhu Xi in his practice.The whole thesis is composed of five parts.The first part is an introduction, making a brief account of the significance of this subject. This part also states the materials and methods used in this thesis, clarifying the scope of this study.The second part mainly discusses the content of Zhu Xi's practice of illustrating the classics with examples. Zhu Xi's research not only inherited the old ideas of the former researchers but also made some breakthrough. For example, it involved in a phonetic reading, vocabulary training and explaining, correcting, illustration of sentence meaning, clarifying grammar, discussing the rhetoric and system, explaining chapter aims, the study of historical narrative, introducing astronomy and geography, and concrete examples, and so on.The third part is the innovation and focus of this thesis, which mainly focuses on the various Exegetical methods employed by Zhu Xi in the practice of decoding the classics. Zhu used various Exegetical methods, showing his unique style of exegesis. This thesis summarizes that his Exegetical methods mainly includes the following seven: seeking meaning from sounds; clarifying the training by form; certification ancient epigraphy; seeking meaning by context; setting Exegesis by moral principles; knowing rhetoric for meaning of classics; seeking Exegetical by Grammar, among which the first two are the traditional training methods of exegesis, while the rest are created and skillfully used by Zhu Xi. The third and fifth among the seven have the clear marks of the times, which are unique.Part Four states the principles of exegesis that Zhu Xi followed in his exegetical practice. The author sums up the main principles : the principle of combining the meaning and theory of Exegesis; the principle of taking the good; the principle of striving to achieve the true; and the principle of melting together.Part Five of this thesis is the conclusion, which assesses the achievements and shortcomings of Zhu Xi's Exegesis. Zhu made the Exegesis achievements mainly in three aspects: Exegesis covering comprehensive, more subtle scope; Exegetical methods varied with its unique style; Exegesis daring to calling in question and striving for innovation. Major shortcomings includes: some mistakes of explaining of words and phrases; some mistakes of explaining of sentences; paying more attention to senses while neglecting confirming.
