Potentiality And Manifestation

Adhering to the methodological principles of combining the historical narration with the logical analysis and linking individual investigating with synthetic expounding, the dissertation investigates the sculptural drafts of seven typical sculptors, then expounds the potential character of sculptural drafts and the manifestation of creative process.The sculptural drafts wholly possess independence of themselves , and wholly possess probabilities of becoming formal works, and wholly possess the potential beautiful characters whether they have become formal works or not, and whether they are better or worse than the finished products after "pulsing, reducing, multiplying and dividing". The dissertation regards sculptural drafts as potential sculptures, and details their three potential characters—original creativity , artistic quality and vagueness.Being "Actual entity" in the generative process of sculptures, Sculptural drafts are concretely manifesting the main phases of sculptural creation. Through the sculptural draft evolution, the dissertation thoroughly analyses the springing up of intention, imagery formation and the constructing of form, and also touches some mechanism and regulars pattern of the evolution of the sculptural creation. This research will cause more and more people to study sculptural process aesthetics in the future.
