This thesis sets the styles of the landscape paintings of Jianjiang and Nizan as the study object; begins with the research of differences characteristics of the two painters'styles; This thesis orients on historical viewpoint, paralleling the comparative approaches of the causes of the two painters'styles, and the aesthetic inclinations in their works, and the both influences on the following ages. focuses on their thinking, the psychological states as remainders and hermits of the past dynasty, and the influences from personalities, friendship, and the distinctive worships of nature and tradition. From all the studies, emerging their similarities in the inherited skills from the tradition, their paintings conceive the distinguishable spiritual expression of themselves. Jianjiang succeeds Nizan's style, but adds his own understanding of art. This study points out the reasons why Ni's fame is greater in poetry rather than in painting in his age, as well as the reasons why Jian, after his death, his name in painting becomes more and more descending, in order to disclose the importance of the interior and exterior factors in succession and progression. In the paper, Lu Shaoqing expresses his own point of view in the value of such a comparative study in the contemporary paintings. This thesis makes an effort in study comprehensively of the development of the two painters'styles in the historical and cultural context. The study is mainly on Jianjiang, from the painting relations to Nizan, showing those aspects of Jian's succession and progression of Ni. In the process of retracing the historical clues and events, which are of no small value in the development of the aesthetic styles of the painters, the paper modifies some details in history and gives a new one, e.g., Jianjiang goes to Fujian Provence earlier than July in the second year of Shun Zhi, rather than follow the so called King Tang to rebel, but aimes at escaping the commotion; Jian finds an identical feeling with Nizan as remainder;and Nizan's painting style is not the main trend of his age, etc..
