Modern Chinese Fabric

Based on the comprehensive study of modern Chinese appositive structure and incorporated with investigation to the linguistic fact of ancient Chinese, modern English and modern Russian, two conclusion are draw as the following: (1) Apposition is a structure which lies between subordination and coordination, the relationship between its components are not only subordinate, but also coordinate. Members of apposition category are inter-related with each other due to family resemblances as well as similarities. (2) Through the synchronic, diachronic and comparative studies of apposition, especially the "NP+NP" apposition structure, referring to other achievement in Chinese research, we conclude that Chinese is a pragmatically sensitive language. The above two conclusion are inter-related, the inference that Chinese is a pragmatically sensitive language is a revelation exposed in our research of apposition, and is testified in further studies. The conclusion, conversely, help us with our overall comprehension of Chinese apposition.
