This research makes an overall discussion about DELEXICAL VERB, a closed subgroup ofverbs in Chinese language. The whole paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the things inside the delexical verb. It mainly discusses thefollowing questions: 1) How to define this classification of verbs. As there are so far very manyterms for these verbs, what we do is to choose a more popular one and then to re-define it. In oureyes, these verbs are used to indicate classification and generality.2) How to define the extent ofdelexical verb. On the one hand, we concerns with much more verbs in our discussion than what isdone previously. On the other hand, we make sure that there are more usages for this kind of verbs.3) How to classify the verbs. We divide the whole verbs into 2 categories: one is to indicateACTION and other is to express DISPOSAL. We make a comparison between the two in theaspects of grammar and semantics. 4) What do delexical verb mean. We deals with all kindmeanings of delexical verb.5) What are the functions of delexical verb. We make a relatively overall comparison between Chinese lexical verbs and theequivalents in Indo-European languages like English and Russian as well as those innon-Indo-European languages like Japanese and Korean. As a result, we can see from this thatdelexical verb is a very good window to look at the world languages referring to Chinese and agood way to observe Chinese language referring to the world languages. 4) Our historicalobservation of the delexical verb is based on the classification of them mentioned in the previouschapters. We divide the verbs indicating actions into 4 subcategories: those only used in ancienttimes; those have being used to present from the ancient; those only appeared in pre-modernChinese and those only in modern Chinese. In addition, we make a research into their originationand we demonstrate the cause of their development. Besides, we discuss about the development ofthe verbs meaning "disposal".Chapter 3 concerns with delexical verb and their study in the perspective of modern Chinese history. 1) It's about the outline of modern Chinese history.
