The thesis made profound use of the plentiful and substantial fruit from the theories of abroad consumer culture, from the view of history, economics, sociology, folklore and culture, making a deep and ful-orientation explore to the history of the urban consumer culture of Canton in late Qing Dynasty, and regarding consumer culture as the important reason and result bringing about Canton's social transformation of Late Qing Dynasty. From the macroscopical angle of view, exploring that social economy development exerted great effect to the urban consumer and social living, and achieved a comprehensive analysis to the price, resident income, and consumer level. The thesis also induced the basic conformation of urban consumer from several angle of view, such as foreign trade economical influence to the foreign goods consumer market, the producing of foreign goods consumer culture, the course of spread and popularization, the course of bite and sup consumer custom, the basic characteristic of tea and drinking building consumer, the diversity of social cultural consumer, the-profound cultural connotation of ceremony consume, drama consume, enjoy consume and education consumption, the extreme effect to the distorting consumption caused by the social regime's disorder, the phenomena of the consumption dissimilation in opium, wagering and going whoring and the severe social sequent. The amalgamation of the west culture and Lingnan zone culture, commerce cultural deep pervasion made Conton's consumer culture of the characteristic of strongly opening, common customs, enjoyment, fad, and practicability. What the embodiment of rich intercourse system and social spatial provide a new research path for the study of the urban history, social life history, and economy history.
