| As one of the China’s earliest treaty port, Canton is also one of the earliest city where theProtestant firstly introduced and the theology education started. This paper takes the moderncanton Protestant theological education and related institutions as the research object, andelaborates the theological education’s developing status, characteristics and impact specificallyin modern canton.Based on the case study of Canton union theological college and specifictheological education institutions, the paper tries to study the relationship between thetheological education institution and missionary society, and illustrate the interaction betweenthe theological education and local society.The paper pays attention to the development ofcanton theological education’s ‘National Identity’ and ‘Three-self’(three-self: self-supporting,self-governing, self-extension) construction, surveying canton theological education’stransforming procedure from ‘apprentice form’ to ‘college form’, which represented by Cantonunion theological college.In addition, on the basis of previous studies, the paper attempts to make a comprehensiveand specific analysis on modern canton Protestant theological education on the identity buildingview, and to understand the real situation of the Christian faith and education of canton societyduring this period, and to explore the relationship between Chinese-Western cultural exchangeand teaching practice. |
