Xunzi And The Gift Of The Warring States Period Thought

This thesis tries to study Xun Zi's thought on the background of the Warring States Period, the composition of this thesis have no adopted mechanical static classification method , it reveals the thought of Xun Zi and compare that with the different philosophers. Social balance was broken in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods, the thought of rites may change become the mainstream. Facing rites change, the social elite discussed the value of rites, this thesis thinks that the essence of the trend of thought in learning is thought of rites, it laid a theoretical foundation of rule the country with rites in the Han Dynasty.This thesis is divided into three parts including the introduction,the main body and the conclusion. The introduction summarizes Xun Zis current research and content, method of the thesis. The main body of the thesis firstly discuss the achievement and limitation of the social change in historical method, and think the Warring States period was the times of the rite changed. Secondly, this thesis think that the Rite and Humaneness is the core of the thought of Confucius. The schools of Tzu-ssu and Mencius inherited and developed the thought of Confucius in revealing the implication of rites ,On one hand, they devoted much attention to the Rite is influenced of concepts belong in the field of moral integrity, on the other hand, they also point out the function of Rite to feelings .The relation of Virtue and Rite is two faces of the question. The Confucianists developed in the fields of the disposition, it reflects the intention of influence society with the moral integrity, the sense of following the example of former rulers is widely accepted in the Warring States Period, Xun Zi thinks that the rites is the principle throughout the ages, his view of the human nature is evil has the realistic characteristic disagree with the immanent transcendence of the school of Tzu-ssu and Mencius. Thirdly, He discussed the duty, purpose, way and content of education, Xun Zis thought of rites advocated the education is most important, and the principle of facing up to feelings and desire, and the thought of respect to the sky, ancestors and other people is prominent in his ideological system. Xun Zis lawful thought is different with Legalist in the connotation and principle of acting on the law, and Rite is the principle of the law. In the political affairs, Xun Zis political thought has characteristic of governing by doing nothing that goes against nature. In addition, on the basis of the view of rites of Confucianism, Taoist, Mohist and Legalists in the Warring States Period, Xun Zi carried forward the thought of rites, and offered critism and theorial response .In the conclusion part, the author thinks the decisive factor of the destiny of Xun Zi's thought is both times and his ideological system, his thought has important influence in Chinese ancient history, and lay a foundation of the mode of the propriety ,scholars become an official in order to become prosperous and Confucian transformation and renovation.
