In Chinese history, the Guanzhong area as a part of the Yellow River Basin, was the most area that was built capitals. This was not only relevant on the geographical location of Guanzhong, but also the more important material foundation upon which the ruling class depended. The agriculture of Guanzhong was made further development on the basic of original from the Warring States Period to the mid Western Han. But after the mid to the end of the Western Han, The agriculture of Guanzhong was not progress but regression. What's the reason led the agriculture of Guanzhong from rise to fall? It is well know that the agriculture of Guanzhong was a typical agriculture and the main feature of Chinese agriculture was depending on the climate. Particularly in ancient society, the productive force was lower, the rise and fall of agriculture much more depended on the climate. In order to explaining the dependence on climate of the agriculture of Guanzhong, the situation about the agriculture from rise to fall is studied and the main reason which causes the situation is analyzed in this paper. The paper includes four parts.The first part is preface. It mainly expounds the geography conditions of ancient Guanzhong and the development of agriculture about Guanzhong before the Qin unified China, and points out the superiority and disadvantage of the development of agriculture in Guanzhong area and the forming situation that depended on the climate; and also runs back over the climate and the study on the development of agriculture of Qin and Western Han.The second part discusses the agricultural development from rise to fall from the later Warring States Period to the mid Western Han. During this time the agriculture of Guanzhong had a great development. The main performance is the increasing in food production and population growth. But after the mid Western Han, the Guanzhong agriculture became recession and the food production began declining and could not meet people's needs, which not only led to the population decreased greatly, but also threatened the rule of the ruling class, finally, the Western Han was faded away.The third part discusses the root reason that caused agriculture from rise to fall, which is the result of the climatic change during this period.
