Singapore proves to be an extremely active mini state in the post-war international world during the Lee Kuan Yew's era. Depending on its characteristic diplomatic strategy as well as application to achieve the unique catalogue of small state diplomacy, it has converted into an excellent example exerting great influence. This dissertation reveals the state's active and practical diplomacy characteristics and sums up its success and loss, on the basis of its actualization of diplomacy strategies in the light of the state's security, economy, regional and global politics, which probes into the particularity of small-state diplomacy in the process of globalization. It posts the successful approach from a new angle of view, and explores the tactics to cope with the international changes when confronted with the cold war and globalization, through active diplomacy strategies to guarantee the state benefits and to promote economy growth and thus to seek the hint for the underdeveloped countries to realize the interaction between interior and exterior affairs.The dissertation contains seven chapters, amounting approximately to 22,000 words. It combines point with side, taking the two important diplomacy aspects, security and economy as point, taking the regional and global diplomacy scope as side, to present the state's characteristics in diplomacy. Themes and outlines for each chapter are as follow:Chapter I is the basis of the whole essay, it analyzing the background and basic objective for the state's diplomacy. It claims that, in Lee Kuan Yew's era, such factors as Singapore's geographical location, history of founding, political construct, economical level and culture had generated a great influence on it diplomatic strategy and behavior. Furthermore, Lee's personal philosophy for state affairs management had stigmatized it diplomacy, owing to the state's political system and his personal prestige. In terms of the exterior factors, the international environment, especially geography-based politics, had exerted its undeniable effect on the policy setting-up and performance. To face the national particularity and international complexity, and to ensure the maximum interests of the state, Singapore has long exercising state-benefit foremost, active and practical diplomatic principles.Chapter II states Singapore's security diplomatic strategy. The nation has a strong sense of security and it implies an overall-defense policy. However, a small nation couldn't rely excessively on self-defense and thus security diplomacy has been worthwhile and has been a key point deserving more attention. Based on the Allied Defense Treaty of Five Nations, military cooperation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, military drill bases abroad, Singapore has set up a great net for safety, enabling itself to be one element of the whole. Singapore is seeking, in a more stable regional and internal environment, security sense, relying on the U.S. guidance and multi-involvement Asian and Pacific Security Strategy.Chapter III stress Singapore's economy diplomatic strategy, revealing the narrow-sense as well broad-sense approaches it adopts to realize its economic achievements through diplomatic activities.
