The Study Of The Functional Word In ZuTangJi

ZuTangJi is a very important works in the study of the language of the Tang and the Five dynasties ,and also has high value for understanding Early Modern Chinese and all the history of Chinese. The study of the functional words is a main content in the study of the Early Modern Chinese grammar. So, it is very necessary to make acomprehen sive study of the functional word system in ZuTangJi.Firstly we describe the system of the functional word in ZuTangJi thoroughly. Then by the comparative law which combines the synchronic and diachronic studies, we try to discuss the history of some functional words ,and classify the relationships among them into three types, they are "synchronization ", "assimilation", "convergence".This paper includes five chapters. In "Introduction" we explore the significance, the research progress and the perspective of our study. The first chapter is "the general picture of the functional word in ZuTang Ji",we raise the definition and classification criteria and take a picture of the functional word system in ZuTangJi. In the second chapter we clarify the synchronic difference between the functional words "lai" and "qu" indicating events, and the "synchronization" relationship between their evolution process. In the third chapter we point out that the imperative functional word "hao" has influence on the imperative functional word "Shide " in their evolution process , their relationship belongs to "assimilation". There is an important grammar phenomenon "cognate sentence" in the evolution of the sentences consisting of "Shide ". We also discuss the origin of the imperative adverb "hao" and the extent adverb "hao". In the forth chapter, we think the development of "shi" and the structure "V+lai+ the phrase of time's duration" are related to "convergence". In the fifth chapter, according to the study of the origin and the evolution process of the functional word "xu" and its structure in ZuTanJji, we make comments on the inheritance about the characteristic of the Zen Buddhism jargon .
