This dissertation endeavors to offer a panoramic study and commentary on the system of the Culture-Economy thought developed by the prominent western contemporary cultural theorist Graham Murdock, one of the main initiators of the Critical Political Economy approach to Media and Communications, and the founder of Culture-Economy thought, situating his major academic contributions in the context of the theoretical cultural and social milieu that have shaped them.By considering the extensive and varied issues, interests and academic activities that the subject of the dissertation has engaged in together with his dedication to breaking with established disciplinary boundaries and classifications, the research presented in this dissertation aims to present a more expansive vision of the relation between culture and economy without being restricted by the borders of the territory marked out by the disciplines of arts and literature in the past.Graham Murdock is not only a key figure in the development of a Critical Political Economy approach to Media and Communications but also a significant western contemporary cultural theorist within the tradition of cultural Marxism developed by the British 'New Left'. There is therefore a close relationship between his theories and various key strands of thought within classical Marxism, the Western Marxism developed within Continental Europe between the two World Wars, and post war 'New Lefts' in Europe and USA. Unfortunately academia in our country has so far focused attention almost exclusively on his role as an inaugurator of the political economy tradition in the area of communications studies, and failed to engage with the full range and depth of his work.
