| At the present stage of the development of science and technique, different fields of science lose their specialization and become more receptive to the knowledge that other disciplines provide. All kinds of processes in the field of Fine Arts are not included completely in the realm of art history and criticism, but also can be described from the point of view of aesthetics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, information science etc.The application of quantitative research methods commonly used in natural sciences (experimentation, measurement, survey technique) to studies in the Fine Arts become more and more customary. In this research we apply some basic conceptions of psychophysiology (functional asymmetry of brain), psychology and information theory as well as a number of quantitative research methods to the studies of Chinese painting of the period of the Early and Middle Qing dynasty, specifically the group of painters, poets and calligraphers known as the Eight Eccentrics form Yangzhou. In this thesis we have divided the painters under examination into three types (left hemisphere (analytic) type, right hemisphere (synthetic) type and a middle type), demonstrated a correlation between the three types and the characteristics of their paintings, and compared them to some other important painters of the studied period. |
