The engraved inscriptions on bronze mirrors are those letters, which were engraved on the back of bronze mirrors. In Han dynasty it appeared many informative different kinds of the engraved inscriptions on bronze mirrors, which reflect factual on the developments of the social thoughts, religions, literature and linguistics in that time and are the important data to research on the literature, linguistics, religions and the history of thoughts in Han dynasty. Comparing to the other data in the same period, there are many special characteristics we can find on the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors. It is not only represented with the aspect of words, but also with the aspect of lexicon. However, there is few works, which have collated systemic and deep researched on the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors, especially from the linguistics.There are two points in this article. Firstly, based on the works, which were finished by predecessors, this article collates systemic the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors since Song dynasty. Secondly, this article researches on some special linguistic phenomenon, such as duweizi, variant characters and misused characters.This article is divided into four parts: forward, the collation of the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors, the research on the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors and appendix.The forward introduces the subject, the value and the purpose of research in this text.The collation is also divided into two parts: the first chapter introduces the development of the works since North Song dynasty and analyses its shortcomings. The second chapter collates systematic the translations to the engraved inscription on bronze mirrors in the books, which have been published since North Song dynasty. In this chapter the author will translate the inscriptions according to the pictures, correct the mistakes on the old books, add punctuations, mark derivations, label the special linguistic phenomenon, note down the research works by predecessors and explain again some words in them.
