In ethnology and anthropology studies, ethnic identity has been a hot topic .After the conception and theory of ethnicity was introduced, they had been accepted and concerned with. On the other hand, the ethnicity of chinese-korean (chaoxian ethnic group) has been apparently developed with his especial immigrant history and regalia affection. Therefore, this dissertation is concerned with both of them and will be important. It will be meaningful in enriching ethnicity theory, declaring the identity of Chinese-Korean and illumining the other nationality studies. The study method of this dissertation is literature analysis and field work. Literature materials include both books and theses about the chinese-korean and the ethnicity conception and relative theory in ethnology and anthropology study field. Field research is the important way to get the first-hand materials and the base of this thesis. The thesis consists of 3 parts: the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. The introduction presents the meaning of the selected topic, related research trends, ideas and methods of the research, object of the research and sources of materials. And terminologies always mentioned in the thesis are also defined or interpreted in this part.Chapter 1 is the first part of the main body, defining the Chinese-korean identity related conception in order to be the base of following discussion.Chapter 2 and chapter 3 are the second parts of the main text. This part is the analysis about the identity of chaoxian ethnic group form he migrated into China, came into be a nationality of china to 1980, before china began to reform. Chapter 2 looks back the immigrant history, different policies to the chaoxian immigrants and the establishment of the identity of a nationality, presenting the important history backgrounds of the chinese-korean's identity. Chapter 3 concluding the main facts effected the development of and analyzing the characters of it before 1980's.Chapter 4, chapter 5 and chapter 6 are the third parts of the main body. With the field interview research, this part focusing on the changes of chinese-korean's identity after Chinese reform and open policy was carried out. In this period, there are two main effect factors of this kind of change: the great social change of chaoxian ethnic group and chinese-korean's labor force export to Korean which formed the real experience of Korean. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 concretely expatiate on these two factors and their effects. After this detailed analysis, chapter 6 concludes the new changes and characters of this period with some theory of ethnicity identity and trans nationality. The last part of the thesis concludes the main content and presents the viewpoints: Firstly, it is the related conceptions' application option. With the application and translation problems, the ideas are: (1) in Chinese, it should use "minzu" when mentions to "zhonghuminzu" and be translated into "Chinese Nation", amplifying its sate and politic meaning. (2) it should also use "minzu", not "zuqun" in Chinese when mentions to "shaoshuminzu" , "56geshaoshuminzu". As a general conception, "minzu" is more suitable than "zuqun" and can be translated into English "nationality".(3)when it is mentioned to a specific ethnic group, Chinese "zu" cannot be regarded as the shortening of "Minzu ", avoiding to have the different meaning, "xxzu" should be regarded as the only appellation. Therefore, in related research of chaoxian ethnic group, Chinese "chaoxianzu" and "chaoxian minzu "should be standardized. The previous one is the only appellation, means one of a Chinese nationality and has Chinese citizen meaning; the next one is a general appellation, including all the people who have Korean ancestry.Secondly, there are three parts, not two parts of chinese-korean' s identity: identify to be citizens of China, to be a nationality of China and to be a common ethnic group with the other Koreans.Lastly, chinese-korean's identity has developed into distinction and been harmonized. They regard China as their motherland, raising the proud and self-confidence as Chinses. They identify to the Korean island based on the common consanguinity and traditional culture. And, as one of Chinese nationalities, they have intensive ethnic identity, although this kind of identity is in facing of danger. The chaoxian ethnic group is harmonizing these three identities well.
