Through the practice of the Catholic Church painting and copying of the western print during the Ming and Qing dynasty, Syncretic painting grew up into a distinct style. At the beginning of Qing dynasty, it was created and gradually formed three types: Peking Syncretic painting, the South of Yangzi river Syncretic painting and Canton Syncretic painting.The Grand Event, Portrait and Scientific Plant are the most important theme in Syncretic paintings. As for the technique and form, there are some syncretic characteristics. Firstly, one point linear perspective is"covered"by Chinese perspective, so it presents one frontal point linear perspective. The combination between the western perspective and the Chinese construction perspective creates the partly western one point linear perspective as well. Secondly, the Chiarosvuro counteract the Chinese line. Thirdly, the composition style of western and Chinese painting show correspondingly self-governed condition with the half erect composition, center composition and symmetrical composition. Last, the western realism color and the Chinese ornamental color combined commendably and formed saturated and splendid color style. Under the influence of all these techniques and forms mentioned above, Syncretic painting depicts realistic, exquisite, complanate and flamboyant particularity.Syncretic painting promoted the development of the commerce and understanding between Europe and China. It also accelerated the pace of Chinese commercial painting, and furthermore, it brought tremendous influence to Shanghai treaty port painting, neoteric Canton area painting and"reformative"painting. It also inspired the Europe industrial arts and garden design of 17-18 century.As the result of the intercommunion between Europe and China, Syncretic painting enlighten people. The way to innovate is not to simply add one style to another, but to utilize the benefit of others painting according to the need. In fact this should be the most important precious enlightenment that Syncretic painting brings to us.
