Xu Fuguan is the first man who emphasized the artistic spirit of China and had an in-depth study. Besides Xu Fuguan, representatives of the second generation of the Modern Neo-Confucianism in Taiwan and Hongkong like Fang Dongmei and Tang Junyi had also touched upon the topic. All the scholars mentioned here had done their studies because of the deep-seated dialogue between ancient and modern China and that between China and the west. The thought of the Modern Neo-Confucianism is broad and deep. Its domain of study involves history, philosophy, art, moral and religion, and so on. On the condition of philosophy and the background of culture of the Modern Neo-Confucianism and based on the poetics and aesthetics of the Neo-Confucianism of Taiwan and Hongkong, my dissertation makes an in-depth study and systemic summarization of the common topic of the Neo-Confucianism of Taiwan and Hongkong by means of comparison, the theory of dialogue, hermeneutics and the historical and cultural approaches, and demonstrates a mastery of the international view and approach of Xu Fuguan and others' study of the artistic spirit of China and the cultural implication reflected therein. At the same time, the dissertation does not neglect all-around aspects associated with the object. The Neo-Confucianism of Taiwan and Hongkong's aesthetic study combines the artistic spirit of Confucianism and Taoism, introjects the aesthetics of China and the west, and excavates the modern merits of traditional aesthetic, which are important problems of the modern Chinese aesthetics. Therefore, it is very helpful to the modern Chinese aesthetic and the comparative poetics that we scan the Neo-Confucianism of Taiwan and Hongkong's problems again and pursue the evolution of these problems in a cross-cultural and cross-subject view.
