From the late of the 19th century to the early of the 20thcentury, Chinese and Korean (C-K) fictions have become the main power of the literature. The characteristics of this period's fictions are full of new themes, new subjects and new concepts. "New fiction" means the rapid development period of the fiction creation of both China and Korea. Within two decades, the number of the fictions has surprised all the people of the world. On the other hand, if we put this period into the long history of both countries' literature, we can hardly put forward several excellent writings. But we still can say that, new fictions have built the bridge between classic and modern literature. The modern time is the most important phase for the literature relationship transformation between China and Korea. Many literature forms have witnessed the change; "new fiction" is one of them. But it is a pity that the research on the relationship between two countries of this literature period can be seldom found. Untill now, there is no special dissertation about the comparison of the Chinese and Korean new fictions. Based on this situation, this paper will use the comparative literature theory as guidance, combine the demonstration and theory, and then describe the whole figure of Chinese and Korean new fictions well and truly. In the dissertation, the author will take several writings as examples, but the key point is the similarities and differences between two countries' whole development periods of new fictions. The dissertation has tried hard to use particular manner and word to analyze and demonstrate the writing. This paper is totally consisted of five chapters, besides introduction. In the introduction part, the dissertation will expound several basic aspects, such as the concept of the "new fiction", present status, mainresearch content, method and significance. The first chapter is "The sprout of C-K new fictions". It is the "exterior research" of the fiction. The dissertation will illustrate the similarities of the historical and cultural background of two countries' new fictions, which involves the influence of the colonial and semi-colonial nation, the push of medium, the educated population and the impact of the foreign fiction. The second chapter is "The course of C-K new fictions". It traces the developmental history of the new fiction; compares the political fiction, social fiction and love fiction of two countries and then demonstrates the differences of each type between two countries. Take social fiction as an example. Chinese new fictions endeavor to make a great and comprehensive account of social lives in the late Qing Dynasty. By contrast, Korean new fictions pay much greater attention on the fate of the characters and the family lives, so they are accustomed to take the wife-and-concubine quarrel and stepmother maltreating of son and daughter as their subject. The third chapter is "The change of form and idea of C-K new fictions". Its idea, which is bordered on the Revolution of 1911 and Korean-Japanese Union, changes from new-democratic revolution to entertainment. C-K fictions attempt to attain the colloquial agreement with the written in style. But vernacular is more popular in the Chinese fictions than the Korean fictions which have kept the rhyming feature. In skill, it is pleasing that C-K new fictions have broken through the traditional bondage and made bold and successful attempts. The forth chapter is "The inside and outside aspects of C-K new fictions' individuality and generality". From the whole developmental trend, we can say that the content and form of the C-K new fictions present many similarities. But for the idiographic writings, they still have their individuality. And the dissertation discusses the cause of this phenomenon from several aspects as follows: the traditional power ofliterature, modern C-K literature relationship, the influence of the Japanese modern literature and the journalist engaged in new fictions. The fifth chapter is "C-K new fictions are a link between the preceding and the following". Based on the research on the development of the C-K new fictions, the dissertation gives the felicitous appraisal to the historical value of each country's new fictions. And also point out the innovation of the new fictions. The essence of this dissertation can be seen from Chapter Two to Chapter Four. In the three chapters, the dissertation not only compares the commonalities and individualities in the content and form of C-K new fictions but also explores their formation. In my opinion, new fiction is the important period that for Korean fiction gets away from the single influence of Chinese fiction. The comparison of two countries' new fictions is to seek the value connection between each other. This is the key point and the innovation of this dissertation.
