This study saw 1930s was the era in which the poet, Yee, Yong-Ak was actively involved in literary work. The time was filled with chaos, confusion, and irony due to the historical circumstances. It was right after the liberation from Japanese occupation at the end of World Warâ…¡. Nevertheless, the influence of the literatures of this period inescapably carries to this day.Through previous works on the poet, a small number of critics, and readers'comments during his time aided this study. It is true that the study of literature of Yee resumed in South Korea when the ban on all cultural publications by defectors to North Korea was removed in 1988. However, even up to 2000s there was limitation to the dept of those studies. This paper attempted to look even into the period of 1945-1971 when this kind of work was restricted and neglected. I also used various research methods in order to achieve more thorough evaluation. The difficulties in getting to the center of the author's intention and resources for that purpose lays in the historical time the poet lived. It was too precarious time for anyone to think of preserving this type of material since it was the period of turmoil and chaos and life and death.Looking at the poet from the biographic viewpoint, it was discovered that there was a great deal of difference between South and North Korean poetic literalism from 1950 and until his death in1971. This difference was discovered in his life.In 1950-1971, a massive revolutionary change took place in the North Korean literalism. North Korean literalism was centered around and dedicated to their political leader and loyalty toward its nationalism. The literatures was demanded and used primarily as a tool to show such sentiment. The author's main subjective point in 1935 "Wishes of the defeated" and his journal entries were leaned toward modernism. The works, "Gorges between Rivers", "The ancient home", and "Violet"in 1940s exposed his struggle to escape from the world of confinement toward the world of open society and nation. It seemed evident that in this struggle he truly desired to enter into the hearts of real people through the medium of reflection of his time. He used the written expressions as a channel to approach closer to the people he really cared and wanted to know. Particularly during 1950-1960 through the piece, "Pyung-Nam Dam", he approached the area that the poet, Yee, canonly imagine and make changes in poetic expressions. This paper also attempted to widen the boundaries that poetic world Yee created. This paper looks deeper into the changes in imageries, emotiona uniqueness, and poetic literalism. In the mind of him the space that he had for his hometown means barren land, poverty, and lost space. Ports and rivers brought the pain of severity of life for survival. Representatively, Tumen River symbolized ever expanding thought of collectively concerned nationalistic linkage. The concept of cities represented in his poetic expressions was inferior complex and defeated emotion. Moreover, the image of metropolitan settings gave out the feeling of being left-out and escaping the reality. His poetic view saw the North not asa location but a sphere, a space for literary expression in projecting the aching heart that reflects the life and misery of the people. (It is transparent that Yee longed to express the sentiment through the imagined world of "North" as his primary concern.)In 1930s the Chinese-Japanese conflict, which caused the captivity of Chosun people in Manchuria and subsequent deportation to and settlement in the area of Shanghai and Russia he too experienced the sojourner's life in a stranger land. He also sees himself as a sojournerThis experience gave him longing for returning home. This period also shaped him as a nationalistic Northern Poet. This paper's findings are as follows:First, find the place and the worth of Yee, Yong-Ak as a nationalistic poet from the objective view and evaluate his work from that point. Second, prepare the way for the future study on the poet which would be more focused, therefore, more scientific analysis can be done.Third, Yee's literature is an accomplishment for his awareness of the time. It is realistic enough to call his work "Triumph at Realism." Consequently, the literary critics should move him beyond the place merely as a 1930s poet but to the rightly position when Unified Literalism becomes in practice. His place needs to be readjusted and re-established.
