When Chinese film industry has been through 20 years of reform, the market isgradually mature and industry-oriented development direction has been clearly set. Thefollowing issues have become the topics of the age: how is Chinese movie industrystatus? What kind of factors and industries mechanism is there? And how to promotethe industrialization process? With the perspective of economics, based on the empirical research methodsand the SCP paradigm framework, this study discusses the industrial structure, industrial behavior, and performance characteristics of Chinese film industry at presentstage and the correlation between them, and also gives selective recommendations forpublic policy. The study first demonstrates the commercial attribute of film and theinevitability of film industrialization. Then it reviews the history of Chinese filmindustrialization and considers that the reform path, "market after industry", has madetremendous achievements but industrialization still lags behind. Based on the researchon the structure such as scale, degree of concentration, industrial barriers anddifferences, it concludes that Chinese film industry is oligopoly-type structure. Afterthe analysis on collectivized tendency, union and collusive behavior, verticalintegration, horizontal mergers and acquisitions, pricing strategy, R&D, marketing, piracy and anti-piracy and operation of show periods, it analyses the film industryperformance from the remaining of the consumers and social welfare perspective, andthen relates them with the structure and behavioral characteristics, in the form ofmathematical model. Empirical study explores the correlation between them, and findsthat the degree of concentration and performance are in the anti-direction movement, and the economic barrier is a fundamental failure. Chinese film industry has becomehigh differentiation industry, while the degree of differentiation is in the same directionwith industrial performance. As a result, to further promote Chinese film industrialization, a deeper, broaderand more open reform is the only way out. To adjust the film industry structure, toimprove the effectiveness of economic barriers and to increase the degree ofdifferentiation is a suitable path for the fact of China's film industry.
