On The Desire Issue Of Post-Modern Society In The Vision Of Jacques Lacan's Theory

The desire issue is a prominent cultural phenomenon in post- modem society. How and from which angle to study the desire issue have become different thinking among different theoreticians. Jacques Lacan, as a post-psychoanalyst, the post-modern tendency of whose theory is remarkable. As for his desire theory, the post-modern sense is especially strong. In another word, there is a very close relation between the desire theory and post-modern culture. In post-modern society,this kind of relation displays itself as that desire is the central topic of the post-modern cultural phenomena. Especially in the consumer time, desires filled our life and consumptive space. Various kinds of desire phenomena force us to make our own appraisement and judgment from a certain stance and from a certain view. The basic situation of the desire in the post-modern society is that expression of desire is superfluous and what we will study is to discover the truth hidden behind the phenomenon. As Jacques Lacan's desire theory reveals the truth of desire, therefore it becomes the logical starting point and theory basis for the study in this dissertaton. The conflict between desire and its expression is the core of the desire theory, which is also the essential feature of the post-modern cultural phenomena. In this dissertation, we have found the joint point between Lacan's desire theory and post-modern cultural phenomena, thereby using Lacan's theory to study the desire phenomena in the post-modern cultural context.The study of this dissertation is trying to combine the theory with the analysis of individual cases , deeply putting the theory into the specific text study; combining the theory with text phenomena and applying Lacan's theory freely in the cultural study. The post-modern cultural phenomena are one of the issues in this dissertation, while Lacan's desire theory is just a theory tool in this dissertation. We not only need to focus on the issue itself, but also need to use the theory to spur on issues. That is to say, the theory cannot be separated from its object, but be held tightly instead. It should make clear that we are using Lacan's theory and from his view to regard the desire issues in the post-modern society, but not other's theory and other theoreticians' view to dissertate such issues, therefore the conclusion we have made inevitably conforms to the whole meaning of Lacan's desire theory. This dissertation consists of five chapters and spreads as the following logical thinking.Introduction, in which it introduces the study object of the dissertation, the relevant academic backgrounds, the scope and method used in the study, as well as the specific thought and framework.Chapterâ… , we set up the logical starting point, which is to introduce the theory basis of this dissertation, Lacan's desire theory in detail. The crucial point of the desire theory should be grasped. Not only the status and specific connotation of the desire theory in Lacan's whole theory but also the difference between Lacan's desire theory and other theoreticians or psychoanalysts should be pointed out. Most importantly, the different meanings and relations among the three-levels of Lacan's desire theory should be explained in a clear way, and the difference between desire and the expression of desire should be emphasized as well.Chapterâ…¡enters the stage of text analysis, in which we use Lacan's theory to study the expression of desire in everyday life which refers to the life in the consumer time. Through studying the way of expression of desire and its carrier,body,we will reveal that there exists a paradoxical relation of overplus and shortage between the expression of desire and desire in the consumer society.Chapterâ…¢is the study of literature text, in which we will explore the expression of desire in literature works, including the expression strategy and the writer's expression mentality. After studying literature text, we will find that some of post-modern literature works are in a kind of narrative pattern of desire, which is represented by the protagonist of the works as well as the writer himself. The pattern originates from the changes of social context and the writer's consciousness.Chapterâ…£,analysis of the issue of desire in network culture. The forms of network culture are various. Network culture being the expressing ground of desires, the desire it displays is incisively, vividly and thoroughly, at the same time desire is getting more close to the level of need, therefore desire is becoming more superficial than those desires expressed in any other forms of expression. This is more determined by the media form of network culture.Chapterâ…¤,theoretical sublimation and conclusion. This chapter is supposed to echo the first chapter. Since the first chapter is only the theoretical rudiment, while by further textual spread of the following chapters, the theory is applied to practice and becomes something fresh and lively. Through dialectical logic deduction, we have come to the conclusion that the root of desire and the expression of desire is surplus enjoyment. We have found that like Marx's theory of surplus value, surplus enjoyment is the intrinsic secret of the issues of desire in post-modern society.The conclusion. From the logic deduction of this dissertation, we can see that if we could choose a certain angle from Lacan's theory, it will be helpful for us not only to understand Lacan deeply, but also to study the cultural issues and literary issues by Lacan's theory thoroughly. This should be a matter of killing two birds with one stone.Therefore, to sum up the above, this dissertation at least provides the following experiences and reference methods for the study of Lacan's theory and culture studies: 1 .The dissertation not only provides a kind of new view of theory for culture studies, but also provides some experiences for simplifying the Lacan's theory on the basis of using for reference Zizek's method of study; 2.After using for reference Zizek's method of study, I have found my own way of culture studies. The concrete study object is no longer western literature or western culture, but Chinese literature or Chinese cultural context; 3.The dissertation has provided an in-depth study angle of view for netwok culture and seized an important cultural phenomenon under the context of post-modern culture.This is the basic information of the study in this dissertation.
