The core of this paper is the "formal language of realistic painting" which consists of seven parts. Firstly, the introduction traces "realism" from the theory of imitation, tracing the source of realistic spirit from historical and humane background, and the significance of the concept of "realism" in the Chinese context. Secondly, it establishes and explores the interest standard and esthetic value of "realistic" painting, deducting the linguistic value of "realistic" painting into two parts logistically, i.e. the part belonging to nature and the part belonging to pure formal language. Chapter one of this paper discusses the triple meanings of "realistic" form. The first meaning is the human's direct feeling endowed by the existence of visual meaning of nature itself, which may also comprise some metaphysical concept or some value judgment unrelated to visual form. The second meaning is the sensory deepening based on the first meaning, each natural part depicted in the painting is both integrated and relatively independent. Thus, each part will form a relationship of permutation and combination, like the size, quantity, distance and so on, which is a formal relationship, the one relying on nature. The third meaning of form in "realistic" painting is the organization mode of pure elements behind natural body. As to painting, any natural content of it is consisted of point, line, color and other sculpt elements. The organization of sculpt elements is not only the main key part in "realistic" painting, but also the key part of painting of other styles which is the most changeable part. Furthermore, we can say that the key to decide the artistic level of "realistic" painting is the organization form of modeling element. This paper has still defined two concepts based on the triple meanings, which is "inner form" and "outer form" of "realistic" painting. Meantime, it has discussed that the main basis of defining "realistic" painting esthetic value is the integrated esthetic state built by the "inner" form. The chapter three to six of this paper have analyzed the "realistic" painting from space, form, color and texture these four logic angles. The main spirit of this analysis lies in the triple meanings of form, which is nature, form of nature and pure element language. It discusses step by step according to the deducting method, finally depicting it as a whole logistically. By the analysis of the form language of "realistic" painting, this paper has finally pointed out that the triple form of "realistic" painting has supported the full structure from cultural concept to visual esthetics, which is the reason that the "realistic" painting can last long. Only by experiencing nature as the starting point can art have longer vitality.
