From Historical Law To Historical Trend

History tendency does not appeal to the refined taste of the theoretical thinking provided that we follow the western traditional epistemology. However, in our practical life or in historical practice, it is such a specific statement both in form and content that people always employ it to interpret individuals'personal experiences and the destiny of organizations, classes, races, nations, religions, cultures as well as human beings. From this aspect, the explanatory ability of history trend is worth treasuring and researching. Meanwhile, we also find the regularity of history vision in modern times not only greatly broadens and deepens human beings'history cognition, but also bears some abstract nature which offers a false vision that history is determined only by history regularity whereas people's practical creativity and its significance or expense have to lead up with its superficial nature. In this paper, the author holds that this abstract nature is largely produced by the abstract nature of traditional regularity, i.e., essentialism and objectivism.Undoubtedly, the history law is an objective existence, the function of which can't be denied. But it is necessary to rethink the simplified understanding tendency originated from natural science. That is, history law is considered as a predetermined and self-closed logical nature which does not link with historical activities. In connection with this tendency, we must build a bridge between history law and practical history, and make the mutual understanding, communication and recollection between the two elements possible.Traditional views on regularity mainly define history law as an inner, essential and necessary link existing in the process of history development. It seems that only history necessity or regularity can make epistemological sense in history-philosophy aspect, and that history can be interpreted from a certain decisive nature. The rigid epistemological modes and narrow theoretical views result in the arbitrary characteristics of historical truth. Because of this, the blindness of historical activities is within some historical facts. The present paper basically holds that history trend is a kind of possibility. Nevertheless, it is this possibility that has extremely important significance to history cognition, or perhaps plays a great role in the further maturation of history ration. Since the functional matter which the real history practice confronts or creates is mainly a possibility, it is an inevitable responsibility of historical thoughts from the philosophical part whether the possibility may bring human beings good or ill omen. Meanwhile, the reason why the possibility can be realized also needs further theoretical discussion and study. If history trend is not viewed in the system of the unity of opposites between necessity and chanciness, certainty and uncertainty, foreseeability and unforseeability, and between alternative and non-alternative, and if history chanciness, uncertainty and their objective historical function are viewed in a incomplete or hidden way, rather than in the way of studying in the system of unity of opposites, history itself can only be understood as the expansion of some transcendental nature in time and processes. Possibility includes necessity or regularity which is not equal to reality but to a possibility. Based on this point of view, history trend also needs profound theoretical discussion and study. History trend is a possibility deserving great attention .It may include people's history ability of making choice and subjective motivation, may cover the non-regularity of history, and may reflect the blindness in history practice caused by regularity worship. The unity of necessity and chanciness forms history trend in a non–linear way. That is to say, this unity shows that necessity or chanciness has no innate explanatory advantage since chanciness can completely entail or create some wholeness to present history itself, reflecting a kind of"emergent"and "accidental"nature or turning point. Thus it is not a trivial matter that can be ignored. In the aspect of historical function, chanciness is an equal necessity bearing undeniable objective nature, which is the key and decisive power towards some destiny. Chanciness can be produced in the way of rigid necessity. It ends up this necessity and finally makes an era for the process of a newborn necessity in the way of diversity.The reason why history trend can be considered as the intermediary agent and the bridge between history law and trend is that it not only meets the demand of historical cognition and the historical practice, but it also has an important theoretical foundation. Firstly, the domestic academic circles have deepened and expanded the studies of their views on principles The possible space theory believes that history law is the law of activities by human subjects, with the features of self-center and passivity, which means that the history law can not be considered as a principle which can shape the whole history from the roots unconditionally and objectively. It mainly limits the space of peoples'activities, within which the limitlessness of human history exists. The domestic views of complex laws believe that historical events and the history process are of a coherently random nature, history going on without any scheduled logic. It marches on, mixed with a series of peaks and troughs. The value of the complex law exists in the fact that it will prove the invalidity of the traditional standpoint and bring the miscarriage of it. More important, the complex law can further and specifically prove how the possibilities in history become possible. But the possible space theory only explains the boundary conditions of human history. Secondly, historical thought gives the history trend an explanation from the mode of thinking. The method of scientific thinking in modern times, which is involved in the social history with its intention of discovering or finding the historical inevitability and the regular truth, differs from the historical thought, which tries to construct the truth of historical possibilities. Instead of taking the normative and compulsory principle as its theoretical aim, it takes the consultative and luminous suggestion as the original intention of history philosophy. The main characteristic of it is to take the historical existence of human as the basic point of historical epistemology and historical understanding. The historical human existence can induce as much abstract timeliness and the logical pre-formation of inevitability and regularity, which are rich in culture and profound survivability. What's more, from this viewpoint, all the methods in spiritual science and social science, such as intuition, imagination, sympathy, analogy, and re-enactment, are important methods. Once the legality of these methods is proved by the history cognition, any conclusion about history itself should be regarded as the understanding of history trend with possibility and inevitability. Thirdly, the Materialismus contains the deep-going perception about history trend. Materialismus is a science of human history development in reality. People in real life are complicated, and the historical relationship in nature can't induce the simple logical necessity and regularity.To approach history, we can not just consider it from its own stands. The barrier between event and relation can be destroyed if we take the historical point of view. This can make some principal problems be rethought, which include the economic determinism of the Second International, the dispute of western Marxism between science and Man, Karl Popper's reproach to historical determinism and the certainty of socialism. The problems analyzed in the paper are all connected with the abstract understanding on the history trend. To some extent, it reflects the Paradox and gap between history event and history relation. In order to avoid or overcome this abstractness, we must take reality and concrete history trend as the background of our rethinking.
