Rock-dyestuff painting is a main painting variety in modern Japan. It have both decorated and poetry flavour. This paper detailed state the emergence, history, devolepment, distinguish -ing feature and material quality of rock-dyestuff scenery painting. In the mean time, the author pursues the Japanese nation's aesthetic standards and the foreign influence from China, Europe and America in culture background. He point out that the Japanese traditional rock-dyestuff scenery painting is similar with Chinese ancient mountains-and-waters painting. Because of political reason, the Japanese modern art is inclined to western society and break away from China. The style of rock-dyestuff scenery painting is inclined to western aesthetic standards. But owing to the history of culture exchange in Sino-Japan, the Japanese art has its own feature. The rock-dyestuff scenery painting of Japan still is constrained by oriental nation style and geographical features of East so that it has not been westernized by Europe. In addition, the Chinese Dunhuang art effects a lot on Japanese new rock-dyestuff scenery painting. At the same time, The Chinese modern new rock-dyestuff painting also effected by Japan. All those exchange makes the flower of the national arts more beautiful and flourishing.
