Many European and American scholars' theory were familiar to the mainland scholars, such as Xia Zhiqing' theory, Li Oufan' threoy of the modernity of Chinese literature, Wang Dewei's "Late Qing Dynasty modernity" exposition and Liuhe's "Translation by the modernity" and so on, these theories have become the focus of attention of the academic community, and at different levels, continued to cause reverberations. At the same time, the study of Europe-Amercian Study of Modern Chinese Literature in the mainland is still lacking, this paper hopes to make up for the current academic aspects of a vacancy, to outline the clues of Europe -Amercian academic development, truly understand and grasp its core values and academic spirit.Besides introduction this paper is divided into six chapters, respectively study on the course of the development and evolution of European-American Study of Modern Chinese Literature,and the ideology .literary ideas and academic achievements of important scholars.The first chapter deals with the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe Study of Modern Chinese Literature. Scholars in the Soviet Union and Eastern European were leaded by socialist ideology , showing a strong left-wing ideological characteristics. They Stressed that the "scientific" and "objective" look at the historical perspective of modern Chinese literature. The outstanding scholars as Prusek and Galik have their own independent viewpoints. Their study of modern Chinese literature were significant contributions in the creation and development of the discipline.The second chapter deals with the process of the rise and the evolution of the West (Western Europe and North America) academic study of modern Chinese literature. Western academic has gone through several important stages of development. In 1960-70 the Western academic circle have a trend on the study of a writer. In 1980-90 the"theory fever" become the Characteristics of Western academic circle. The scholars actively absorb the popular methods of literary criticism in the humanities areas,and making research showing a more complex range of dimensions.Chapterâ…¢is focused on the two pioneering scholars in the West - Xia Ji-an and Xia zhiqing. In the study the brothers shows their distinct academic personality. Xia Ji-an focus on the cultural and literary of left wing. Li ou-fan have multiple cultural identity and rich research results. However, in his study of modern Chinese literature, he has always been committed to the pursuit of modernity of Chinese literature. Modernity,is the center discourse of Li ou-fan's modern Chinese literature study.Chapter 5 deals with the academic research of Chinese-American scholar Wang Dewei. In the post-modern cultural context, Wang developed and deepened the main vein of north America's modern Chinese Literature study which is created by Xia zhiqing. His theory "Late Qing Dynasty modern"through the study of the literature of late Qing Dynasty show the the multiple possible of modernity, and reflect the modern problems of modern Chinese literature.Chapter 6 deals with the modern Chinese poetry study of overseas scholars. The overseas scholars represented by Ye weilian deep into the field of Chinese culture through poetics thinking,persuit the inherent charm of Chinese Language and Culture.European-American Study of Modern Chinese Literature had fruitful achievements.
