Chen Jiru Research: History And Literature

Chen Jiru(from 1558 to 1639),born in Huating,Songjiang,had a literary name Zhong Chun,and his alias was Mei Gong,or Mei Daoren.Chen Jim lived through the ages of Jia Jing,Long Qing,Wan Li,Tai Chang,Tian Qi,and Chong Zhen.He gave up the identity of Shengyuan(students in feudal society) at the age of 29,and he hadn't any official position for life.Chen Jiru,immersed in mountains and rivers,was a very famous scholar in Late Ming Dynasty.This thesis,based on rewriting chronicle of Chen Jiru's life,planned to do a complete research on Chen Jiru's life,scholarship,social intercourse,and his writings. And through this research,the thesis tries to show readers a true Chen Jiru in history, and more over,the thesis also tries to analyze Chen Jiru's historical status in Jiangnan society of Late Ming Dynasty.The whole text is composed of four chapters.Chapter 1 lays a foundation for the study of the following text by exploring the development of printing in Jiangnan of Late Ming Dynasty and the influence on Chen Jiru,and examining the genuine or fake of the books affixed Chen Jiru's signature.Chapter 2 shows readers Chen Jiru's interests in life and exhibits the daily life of scholarly gentry in Jiangnan of Late Ming Dynasty by discussing the life practice of Chen Jiru and the ethos of that age.Chapter 3 explains Chen Jiru's influence on Jiangnan of Late Ming Dynasty from the direction of documents to social ethos by analyzing Yi Min Shi and Hu Hui,edited by Chen Jiru. Chapter 4 discusses Chen Jiru's passion for politics.From his concern over the local affairs and the politics of the court,we can say that Chen Jiru actually was the double linkman of the court and the local in Jiangnan society of Late Ming Dynasty.He should be a member of the dominant group of Ming society.Finally,from the analysis hereinbefore,this thesis tries to examine the change of comments on Chen Jiru from people of Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty.In conclusion, I give the comments on Chen Jiru of myself,and analyze Chen Jiru's history status and his historical impact on Jiangnan society of Late Ming Dynasty.
