In Chinese archaeological Research, the territorial investigation of archaeological culture is the most important thesis. Through synthetically studies on the Han Dynasty tombs in south China, this paper will solve the following questions, such as the territorial distributing of Han Dynasty tombs, the course about how the Han culture comes into being and the correlative problems. This paper consists of seven chapters.ChapterⅠ:Introduction. This chapter explains what the meaning of the Han tombs. In this paper, the Han tombs were the tombs that constructed during the Han Dynasty and. accredited to the Han funerary system. Then, this paper reviews the findings and research on the Han Dynasty tombs in South China in the past years, generalizes the research actuality, including the achievements and limitation of the research, and advances the research method and research ambition of this article.ChapterⅡ:The partition of the Han Dynasty tombs in South China. Frist,from the study on the regional variability and interregional interactions of the culture, the author thinks it should be some different from the partition in prehistory and history period. In history period, the partition should consult the historian opinions of that period. Then, the author introduces the partition of South areas in China in the《Han shu?Dilizhi》,in this book, the south China can be divided into four areas ,that were Bashu area;Chu area;Wu area and Yue area.Second, the authors advance the partition in this article.According to the archaeological culture relics from the Han tombs, the South China can be divided into four culture area, that was the Lianghu area, the Dongnan area, the Lingnan area and the Xinan area. In the end, the author gives some introduces to the grounds and geographical range of every culture area.ChapterⅢ:The shapes analysis of the Han Dynasty tombs. The author introduces the standards of shapes classify in actual Han Dynasty tombs research, pointes out their localizations and advanced her own standpoint on the shapes classify. In succession, the author sorts out the Han Dynasty tombs in South China, the Han Dynasty tombs can be divided into three groups, that were pit tombs, catacombs,cliff tombs and introduces the shapes classify of every culture area.ChapterⅣ: Typology Analysis of funeral objects and the periodizations of the tombs in different culture areas. Frist, the bases of periodization on tombs are put forward. Second, base on different kind of data in different areas, different methods are used for periodization. As for the areas that only having limited data with specific time character, just as Lianghu area, Wan area,Xinan area and Lingnan area, according to the development of the grave configuration, the typology analysis of funeral objects, bronze mirror ,money and all corrective objects, the periodizations are set up. Before the periodization of Lingnan area, the ages of some graves with rice character design and the early period of the Western Dynasty tombs in Guangzhou are dissolved, so the periodization study of Lingnan area are reliable; As for the area having plenty of data with specific time character,just as the Suzhegan area, comparative approach is used.Base on the tombs with specific time character, the age criterion is set up. Then through compare with it, refer to the funeral objects and the other information about the tomb, the age of the tombs without specific time character are also known. Thereby, the age framwork of Suzhegan area are all established. in succession, the law of evolution about the funeral objects is educed. In the end, the age framework of the tombs in south China is built up.ChapterⅤ:The culture formation studies on the Han Dynasty tombs in South China. First, the definition of Han culture is explained, and how many kinds of culture elements are in the Han Dynasty tombs in south China. The author thinks that Han culture has two sides of meaning, and the culture elements in the tombs of South China can be divided into five groups, that are the relic of different state culture before Han Dynasty, the Han culture the culture outside China , the Nanyue culture and the Xiongnu culture. Second, The different culture factors are clustered in each culture area. Base on the distributing and eat and flow of different cluster in different development stages, the development process of culture factors in the Han Dynasty can be found out.ChapterⅥ:The discussion of the culture characteristics of each area and their forming reasons. Base on the periodization and analysis of the culture factors of each area, the local characteristics of each area are summarized from the shapes of the tombs and the artifacts. And the reasons are also generalized from the geographical, the economical the political and the religious standpoints.ChapterⅦ:The Characteristics of the Han culture formation in South China and the historical investigation. The South China is regarded as an integrated whole, the formation of Han culture and its Characteristics in this Chapter is reviewed. Consequently, the author concludes that the Han culture emerged in the early period of the Western Han Dynasty, came into being in the middle and late period of the Western Han Dynasty, and expand in the period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Then, the Characteristics of Han Dynasty tombs in south China are summarized from the sides of the tomb shape, the funeral objects and the culture factor. In the mean time, the formation of Han culture is relatively tadro and the local character is obvious in south China.then the formation reasons are probed into from the society development status and the political and economical standpoints in South China. Finally, we can conclude that the characteristics in south China from archaeology is accord with the social development. Just because influence by the social development of that time, the Han Dynasty tombs in south China show itself different characteristics from the north and the center area.
