The suffusion of art of irony is one of extremely important phenomenon in Chinese fiction during "The New Period".Based on the differentiation and analysis of theories of irony and the careful study on fiction,this thesis researches that these art of irony produce the actual condition, theoretical value and historical significance,and thereby revealing these patterns of writing during "The New Period" and revising the definition on irony.The part of introduction gives a systemic exploring into irony from ancient time till now.On the basis of this,it demarcates irony has three aspects concept——language irony,narrative irony,sein irony——along with a style of post-modernity,and then introduces the words of irony that appear in China.In view of these,it points out irony is a thinking consciousness and agrees with the cultural context of "The New Period".Chapter 1 interprets diversified artistic styles of language irony and its root characteristic that warps other words.The rhetorical way contributes to beautify the image of a language.Chapter 2 analyses unreliable narrator how to bring about ironic effect.These show the importance of form on fiction and mean that Chinese writers are awaking to narrative and Chinese fiction is growing ripe.Chapter 3,in the light of the comparison of reality with sein and satire with irony,explains that sein irony is formed by questioning situation and displays life is in a dilemma.People,by means of this,can not only face up to absurdity and nihility but also reach settlement with world.Chapter 4 describes the characteristic of irony that possesses the style of post-modernity and points out it can lead to both creation and nihility.The conclusion part clarifies the ironic thinking causes that the duplex narrative type takes shape in fiction,concurrently deepens the question about spirit and proves to be impetus that leads Chinese fiction to the exploration of art.All mean Chinese writer and fiction are rescuing themselves from absurd situation.
