Hans R. Jauss thinks ironic works represent the greatest achievement of novel writing. Even some critics think that works of all writers have irony characters. Milan Kundera’s works successfully used irony theory. However, a few of papers analyzed works of Kundera by using irony, so the papers analyzed works of Kundera using verbal Irony. Besides introduction and conclusion, The papers consists of three parts.The first chapter is about General Irony. It’s the theory foundation of the papers. It is made up of three parts. The first part is about the conception development of Irony. From Socrates to Romantic Irony in18century to New Critic Analyze Irony as the principal of poem. The concept development of Irony is still developing in history.The second part is about the feature of Irony, Mainly analyzed in three points. Firstly, writers rhetoric intervene in indirect statement. Secondly, oppose factor go agaist each other and coexistence. Thirdly, the separation between narrator’s statement voice and invisible writer.The third part is about Irony classification mainly including verbal Irony, situation Irony, style Irony.The second chapter discusses verbal Irony applied in works and were mainly discussed in three points. Firstly, Irony and character creation. There are three typical figures including untruth believer of religion,the young dreaming of revolution,figure playing life. Secondly, the relation between Irony and imagery including four imageries:eyeglass imagery, dog imagery, medicine imagery, graveyard imagery.The third part analyzes irony and anatomy of traditional value mainly including mother’s love, unite, loyal virtue. These traditional virtue expose truth.The third chapter Irony function in works of MilanKundera mainly including three points. From the angle of Irony and existence can we see Kundera’s attention about human; From the relation of Irony and Ridiculous can we see kundera’s attention about life. From the angle of irony and humour can we see the apply of kundela’s humour wisdom.
