On Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenological Aesthetics

For the research of aesthetics,the importance of the contemporary Frenchphilosopher Merleau-Ponty's thought is increasingly highlighting,because there is adirect and profound relationship between his"body"theory and the hot issues fromthe contemporary academia,such as"emotional","inter-subjectivity"and"freedom",but also the theory can give us a way to breakthrough the limitation of dualistic modeof thinking in aesthetic research.In this paper,we will clarify Merleau-Ponty's aesthetic thought,and we willbegin our research on the background of inheritance and development of thephenomenology (in particular,his creative interpretation about Husserl'sphenomenology).we will pay attention to Merleau-Ponty's development ofphenomenological Aesthetics.Therefore,we will attempt describe Ponty's thinking atfirst,and then we will research his phenomenological aesthetics.we hope we can findout his improvement and contribution to the basic aesthetic questions,and thedevelopment of space and explore ways of thinking from Ponty's phenomenologicalaesthetic.From the development of his thought,in the earlier period,Merleau-Pontyresearch the human behavior to criticize the pour consciousness philosophy.In theexploration into the ambiguous areas of the body,Ponty use"the bodyphenomenology"or"the existence phenomenology"to expand the phenomenology ofconsciousness in order to explore the research of the field of aesthetics;in the middleperiod,that is,from 1945 to the late fifties,Ponty started to explore the field ofculture and society.Art,philosophy and science is seen as the developed fonn of theperception.The research of the literature and arts expand the theory of the body at thesame time;At his late,Ponty tried to explore the primitive world of the experienceand cultural perception,so he began to the build the"Ontology"——"flesh,"in theprogress of the construction of the ontology,Ponty researched painting,art and theirrelationship between and"the flesh"."In the beginning,the problem is how to put the significance of the pure andsilent experience into the pure expression".This is a famous words from Hussurl,wethink that this saying is important for Merleau-Ponty's thinking,we think the powerof Ponty's thinking is the tension derived from the original and silent experience andits"expression",and the"silent experience"is the mysterious that thephenomenology will face to at last.In fact,the body and the flesh are all belong tothe"silent experience",Ponty's aesthetics is from the basic exploration.We will research the"Silent experience"to expand the aesthetic basic problem inthe first Part of this article,including the"sensation","body","the Situation andfreedom"and so on,and then we will mainly talk about the"expression"in the secondpart,we will pay attention to the arts,especially literature,painting and the closerelationship between the"silent experience"and the arts.Ultimately,in the inherited thinking of the basis of these themes from Husserl andothers,Ponty expands the aesthetic research,especially in depth a number ofimportant basic issues of aesthetics,and many Aesthetics difficulties fromBoumgorten and Kant;On the other hand,Ponty's"body"theory can expand theresearch of many issues of the academic.So we think it is necessary to continue theresearch of Ponty's aesthetics.
