The bronze inscriptions of the Han Dynasty not only include the important historical materials, but also are the art heritage and the real proof to witness the procession of Chinese characters and calligraphy's evolvement. After many scholars made great effort in this field, the collection and research of the bronze inscriptions of the Han Dynasty have been reached great achievement, which not only provide abundant materials for the future study and amount of approaches in both study ideas and research ways, but also establish the foundation for our future study. Generally speaking, the highlights of the past studies were to explain the meaning of the characters in the bronze inscriptions and to discuss about the historical and cultural meaning of the inscriptions. Most of these studies focused on the bronze inscriptions on a few of bronze ware or some of the individual characters in the bronze inscriptions. It is seldom to see such fundamental research that is focuses on the Han Dynasty bronze inscriptions as a whole. Furthermore, the linguistics and philological study about Han Dynasty bronze inscriptions is very weak.The dissertation includes four parts, which are the introduction, the general explanation of the words of the bronze inscriptions in the Han Dynasty, the culture research of special topics and the appendix.The introduction part includes the reason to choose this topic, the current situation of the study of the bronze inscriptions in the Han Dynasty and the research content and the research ways.The general explanation part is to find the meaning of every character and words of the bronze inscriptions in the Han Dynasty by using different dictionaries and works written by scholars. The materials of the bronze mirror inscriptions are collected from 49 books from the Xin Dynasty to the Eastern Han Dynasty, the other materials of bronze inscriptions (The seal inscription is not included.) are collected from 3 ways: the traditional works of bronze and stone inscriptions from Xuanhe Bogu Tu in the Song Dynasty to the middle of 20th century, the books of bronze inscriptions published by different libraries (provinces, cities and autonomous regions) and by individuals after PRC was established, the articles or the archaeological reports about the bronze inscriptions in the Han Dynasty from different magazines.The culture research of special topics is focusing on the cultural meaning of a few of myth figures in the bronze mirrors, such as Xi Wangmu and Dong Wanggong, The Yello Emperor (Huangdi) and Boya, Wang Ziqiao and Chi Songzi.The appendix includes a list of the bronze inscriptions in the Han Dynasty and a list of the characters and words which the author could not find the proper meaning of them right now.
