On The Theory Of Pleasure And Interest (Leli) In The Wuxu Period

The aimes of the paper is to describe the characters of the theory of pleasure and interest(Leli),which is represented by gang You-wei,Liang Qi-chao,Yan Fu andTan Si-tong,to make clear the relationships between the theory of pleasure and interest and the other ideas and theories during the same period and to find out the meaning of the theory of pleasure and interest during the philosophical revolution of the modern China.The theory of pleasure and interest is the special name for the utilitarianism of the Wuxu Period(from this period,people begin to accept the utilitarianism definitely),from which we can describe the common charaters of the theories during the Wuxu Period clearly.This theory is not the result of accepting utilitarianism completely.It is related to the chinese traditional culture:on the one side,it denies some tendency in the orthodox thoughts to show such a unsuccessional conversion to the tradional culture;on the other side,it accepts the resources in the unorthodox thoughts to show the succession with the traditional culture(specially the heretical thoughts).' To change unorthodoxy into orthodoxy ' is the mainstream in the modern thoughts,so does the theory of pleasure and interest.In some degree,this theory still has the certain form of utilitarianism,but it doesn't accept the individualism.It is still relatved to the chinese traditional culture,with the aim of the harmony of the society and the individual.Under the presumption of the evolutionism,the theory of pleasure and interest should make the great revise to the debate for the righteousness and profitableness and the theory of personality in the traditional thoughts so as to make up the theory of human right.As the spread of the utilitarianism in modern China, the theory of pleasure and interest shows the modernity of China.It is not until the Wuxu Period that utilitariansim has been introduced into China by Yan Fu and Liang Qi-chao and has been widely spreaded.Based on the traditional culture resources,the acceptence and abandonment of utilitarianism is the main point of the theory of pleasure and interest:on one hand it accepts the ideas of pleasure and interest of utilitarianism without the idea utility,on the other hand it rejects the typical individualism of utilitarianism and constructs the theory on the base of the harmony between group and individual.The theory of pleasure and interest is not only the succession of the chinese traditional culture but also the transformation of modernity.The transformation aslo takes place in the interaction between the theory with the other ideas and theories.There are three parts:first,the theory of pleasure and interest interpretates the traditional ideas and theories to make the reversion of the relationship between righteousness and profitableness and establish the new ideal of persinality. Second,with the development of the theory of nation and the evolution,the theory of pleasure and interest is built,which also enriches the theory of nation and the evolution.Third,the theory of pleasure and interest makes up the theory of human right in order to solve his own deficiency.Under the view of the comparion of China and the West,this text shows the outline of the theory of pleasure and interest in the Wuxu Period,which is based on the research of the individal cases.The theory of pleasure and interest(Leli) doesn't contain the two basic presuppositions of the utilitariansim,so we can not name it utilitariansim generally.The choice of the utilitarianism by the theory of pleasure and interest(Leli) makes the great effect on the value evolution of the modern China...
