The early development of Shanghai school of drawing was coincident with such a period of time characterized by the corruptive goverment of Qing Dynasty and national crisis caused by foreign powers. Through the analysis of cause and achivements of drawing during this period, the social and artistic elements had great influences on the development of drawing.The conformaty of the vigorouse style represented by epigaphy and the spirit of self-reliance in national crisis has promoted the changes of national drawing in self-discipline, the morphological transformation from the classical to the modern and maintained the national spirits.The early developments of shanghai school of drawing and its achivements are not, as the previous studies , the result of the western elements, but the assimilation of western elements. The changes in urban economic forms has brought the correspondingly alternative paronage in painting and promoted it' s process of commercialization .he histrical events and achivements of painting in this period , the histic mark of national drawing, fully evidenced the decline of drawing in late the Qing Dynasty . Shanghai school , through the comparation with Lingnan school and Peking school, has prospected national drawing.
