In Chinese linguistics history, since Tang and Song Dynasty, there is a kind of tables on phonological material which are called the sound tables(韵图) in the academic circles.Besides the study on ancient and later phonology, the study on the sound tables was established. The sound tables can mainly be divided into Song and Yuan sound tables and Ming and Qing sound tables according to times and founction.Song and Yuan sound tables can also be devided into three kinds:firstly,YUNJING(〈韵镜〉)and QIYINLUE(〈七音略〉);secondly,SISHENGDENGZI(〈四声等子〉) and QIEYUNZHINAN (〈切韵指南〉);thirdly,QIEYUNZHIZHANGTU(〈切韵指掌图〉).YUNJING and QIYINLUE is mainly discussed in my paper. We use present scholars' achievement much more than Ming and Qing scholars',but also use the material which is newly discoveried and the research results which are recently announced as far as possible. The paper involves such materials:Song and Yuan sound tables,Tang and Wudai(五代) rhyme books,Siddham material and the rhyme material of poems in Tang and Wudai(五代).The paper includes five chapters which talk about the earlier sound tables'structure, foundation and rhyme system respectively. There are such innovations in my paper: 1.Reexplaining both some categories and some materials related to the earlier sound tables in the paper;2.Criticizing certain ideas in the research and Pointing out that the times which the earlier sound tables were constructed should be judged based on the change with pronunciation, the evolution to the rhyme books' structure, the development with the method on FANQIE(反切)。Proposing that the earliest sound tables might be produced at the end of Tang dynasty, even later.3.Analyzing two studies on the sound system of the earlier sound tables; Pointing out that the founction of the earlier sound tables is to demonstrate the sound system in the rhyme books of QIEYUN(〈切韵〉).
