Born in America, Joseph Schwantner(1943) is a famous America conductor andeducator. His compositions are famous for their strong Dramatic Characteristics,inherent philosophy and colourful orchestra timbre. Most of his works werecommissioned. His first orchestral works Aftertones of Infinity won the1979PulitzerPrize for music, in1978. Conducted in1977, And the Mountains Rising Nowhere ishonored as Wind ensemble works for resent ten years. Both of the works wereconducted in the same period and have the similar Characteristics of creativetechniques. They are mature works of Joseph Schwantner with unique style.Meanwhile, the simple style is implied in them for latter works.In this paper, pitch structure and timbre with sound are analyzed from technicalpoint of view. The dissertation consists of three chapters. The first chapter studies onthe whole creation background and sound resource. The second chapter studies on thedesigning and developing of the core pitch structure. Lateral and crossbar pitchstructure features are also analyzed in this chapter. The third chapter analysesmorphological characteristics, precise sound processing and colorful orchestra tone oftimbre with sound. At last, the special creation idea and technical methods have beeninterpreted, concluded and expanded.
