This article is divided into six chapters. The first chapter describes the development stages, the scholastics introduction and the academic ideology of the Neo-Confucianisms of Hu-Xiang school in Southern Song Dynasty. The literary thought, literary works and the artistic characteristics of the main representatives named Hu-Anguo, Hu-Yin, Hu-Hong and Zhang-Shi are elaborated at Chapter 2 to Chapter 5.In general, Hu-Anguo advocates concise literary works, and his articles focus on current affairs and politics. His literary style is just like Chun-Qiu Period Annals, it is refined and rigorous. Hu-Yin's works emphasize the country governance, he objects to Buddhism and he believes that the literature should serve for the public affairs. He also highly commends the Ci of Su-Shi. Hu-Hong takes the Confucian ethics as literature. His works penetrate with the Confucian logic and thought. The purpose of his composing poems is mainly expounding the truth and is concerned with the national affairs. His poetry achieves a higher artistic achievement on the expression of Confucian principle. Zhang-Shi's literary thought comes from the unified view based on his profession of the Neo-Confucianism and the educationalist. He thinks the literary pursuits makes against to the Neo-Confucian pursuits. His works emphasize the learning and the study, and is good at expatiate on the Confucian theory which he specializes in. And as a poet, he accomplishes the highest achievement, some of his landscape poems are the best one among the Song Dynasty poetry.The last chapter draws the overall expatiation to the literature of Hu-Xiang school, including the main literary achievement of Peng-Guinian and You-Jiuyan, the impact to the literature by the academic thought of Hu-Xiang school, and the four general characteristics of the literature of Hu-Xiang school.
