Critics On The Phenomenon Of Mythologizing In Contemporary Literary Research

There are some follacy and illusion rooted in rationality and academic institution in our literary research.They are neither by virtue of fallacy in evidence and logic,nor because of researchers'random mistake.On the contrary,it has methodological and epistemological necessity.There has been many studys by way of external factors such as ideology,power and social relation on this issue.However,this paper will take the internal insight to investigate that how the mythologizing in literary research is produced from academic and rational regulation.This paper begins with the concepts of academic myth and rational myth,and then concentrates on mythologizing in literary research.The character and institution of academic myth in literary study is based on those existing critics on myth. In the analysing of texts,research on Zhou Zuo-ren's view on female is taken as example.In this case,it concerns about three kinds of relation:object with itself,object with research,and object with other object.As a result,three kinds of myth about quality,model and relation is produced. First,researchers may cover heterogenous elements with the part of "sympathizing with and appealling for female",as a result,they will see what they want to see in this frame.Second,they exagerate the profoundity of Zhou's idea.Third,they establish incorrect cause-effect connection by wrong cause-effcet schemas,including cause-effect schemas by similarity and by linearity.These kinds of myth are not by reason of inefficiency of data and evidence,but rooted in our rationlity which takes the illusion as the truth.The illusion is not rooted in object but in subject's imposing.Neither the integerality nor the relation between objects and value imposed on object by subject,are all what rationality constructed by kinds of schemas.It makes object appear as "object in mind" that we want and need.However,this type of illusion is not absolutely illusive.To certain extent,it satisfies our spirit and is right yet.It is different from common and primal myth,but conforms with our rationality.In addition,owning to the powerful rationality in academy,the influence of myth in academy is especially amplified. The phenomenon of mythologizing is rooted in our intellect.Therefore,although we want to eliminate it,it will emerge in other context and form.Furthermore,it also is beneficial to our mind in a sense.It is common in our literary research.The universality and consequence of mythologizing can be reflect on three advancing aspect:discipline of literature,rationality,culture.First,for discipline of literature,it impels the trend of anti-academy.Furthermore,it also promotes the anti-rationality in rationality and mordern myth in civilization.But the critics on mythologizing is not simply anti-mythologizing.It is not from one polar to the other. However,it strives to make progress in literary research by means of the tension between myth and academy.On the one hand,it must be concentrated that academy,although have been making myth,is different from primal myth.On the other hand,academy fosters myth and gives it more civilized form instead of depressing it. To sum up,academy must remain the atitude of self-criticizing and self-reenlightenning,remain the distance of self-inspecting from its academic production.
