Much has been devoted to the portrayal of Wang zhaojun in literary creation since the Western Jin Dynasty though her name was only briefly mentioned in The History of Han (Han Shu).Different literary interpretations of her marriage to a Hun king have bestowed complexities upon the story itself. Since numerous literary works of different genre are composed upon her, an everlasting theme that has been enchanting so many writers,the case study of the evolution of Wang Zhaojun's image in Chinese literary history will provide us new opportunities for the reflections on the evolution of the Chinese literature and the main characteristics of different phases since the West Jin Dynasty.This dissertation, with a humanist perspective in its diachronical investigation of the evolution of the Chinese literature,reveals how the changes of Wang Zhaojun's image in literary history is an integral part of the general evolution from the old to the present day and how such an influence from latter was implied in the former. In this way, inner connections between ancient and modern Chinese literature exiist.This dissertation, exoplores the connections to demonstrate the evolution and provides a new approach for theliterary studies of Wang Zhaojun.
