A Research On The Dramas Of Wang Zhaojun Story

Hanshu established the basic framework of Wang Zhaojun story, and the relevant records of Houhanshu, Qincao, Xijingzaji ect. further the story. The story widely spread through the varied means such as folk literatures snd cifu poems,bianwen ect. After Song and Yuan dynasty. Consequently,the dramas of Zhaojun came in large numbers with the rising and thriving of Chinese dramas.At least,there were four pieces of dramas of Zhaojun story in Yuan dynasty. It is a pity that there was only HanGongQiu can be saved and handed down from Yuan dynasty to now. Fortunately, HanGongQiu was regarded as the classic in the dramas of Zhaojun story. This chapter interpreted HanGongQiu from the following respects: Firstly,discussed the theme of this drama;Sencondly,explored some innovations of this drama about Zhaojun story; Thirdly,explained the artistic originalities of this drama; Finaly,made a simple comparison with WuTongYu which also belonged to the same kind with HanGongQiu.There were four pieces of dramas of Zhaojun story in Ming dynasty.And among them,the most famous dramas are Chen YUjiao's ZhaoJunChuSai and anonymous HeRongJi. The former, regarded Zhaojun as the heroine of the story, intercepted the road of HeQin and ChuSai,especially highlighted the loneliness and bitterness of leaving the country for foreign lands.The latter,the story line followed HanGongQiu gengerally and also had small changes.This drams had a dismal tone but a happy endness.Obviously,this design accorded with the Chinese traditional aesthetic interest of The Happpy Ending. In fact,this drama reflected the public's understanding about the Zhaojun story to a great extent.In Qing dynasty,the dramas of Zhaojun story were rich and flourishing. However,there were three pieces can be preserved: You Dong's DiaoPiPa, Xue Dan's ZhaoJunMeng and Zhou Leqing's PiPaYu. DiaoPiPa,the former three chapters adopoted HanGongQiu on the whole. The last chapter described Wenji condolenced Zhaojun and blazed a bit of new trails. Superficially,the playwright felt sorry for Wenji and Zhaojun about they wretched fate.Essentially,the playwright expressed the frustration of himself and the slight memorial to Ming dynasty which perished for a long time. ZhaoJunMeng,the writer also had a disappointed life. According to content and title of this drama, we can draw a conclusion that the drama delivered the playwright's regrets of'The life likes a dream'.In a word, DiaoPiPa and ZhaoJunMeng had the strong literati interest and charm. PiPaYu, it highlighted Zhaojun's caming back to Han dynasty and finally involving in the affair of becoming a supernatural being. It is clear that this drama greatly reorganized the story of Zhaojun. In this sense,this drama has great differences between the former works which mostly conveyed the melancholy and resentment of Zhaojun.Love,life,home,country,ideal,reality,proudness,disappointment,ect. All the factors had endowed the story of Zhaojun with rich cultural connotation and unique aesthetic charm.That was the reason why successive literati favored this story and also the purport and focus all dramas of Zhaojun story had expressed.
