The content of this thesis is the studies of modern Hong Kong calligraphy history that explore the developments of Hong Kong calligraphy from 1945 till now (early 2010).Hong Kong has only a short history on calligraphy. During the late Qing Dynasty, some of the scholars from Guangdong temporarily lived in Hong Kong. They brought the calligraphy to Hong Kong indirectly through their literary gathering activities. After the twentieth century because of political unstable in mainland China, groups of immigrant calligraphers came to Hong Kong. They brought different styles of calligraphy in different periods from the Mainland China again and again. At the same time, these styles were accepted and developed, and combined with local calligraphers'calligraphy, forming nowadays Hong Kong calligraphy circumstances.Hong Kong calligraphy, carrying various styles from the immigrant calligraphers and scholars, did play an important role in the preservation of traditional Chinese culture in the unstable periods of China. However, since Chinese economic reform and opening, society and economy has been rapidly developed. The trend of calligraphy in China also upsurged. On the contrary, Hong Kong calligraphy is now under the conditions that cannot achieve an ideal development, meanwhile, also facing various difficulties.This thesis contains a huge collection of Hong Kong calligraphers' information with fully conducting analysis and studies in different categories including history, periods, social conditions and cultural background, etc. All the analysis and studies will help to explain how Hong Kong calligraphy was transplanted and rooted in Hong Kong and speculate the developing directions of Hong Kong local calligraphy in the future.
