From the 1980s and even earlier till nowadays, the Hong Kong movie had made great achievements in the commercial fields, which made Hong Kong The Eastern Hollywood. Among the conventional film productions, there have been so many films directed by almost all modern Hong Kong directors that focused on the old Shanghai, or performed the old Shanghai stories and set the 1930s'Shanghai as the film's background. As far as this pheromone is concerned, we claim it the old Shanghai Complex in the Modern Hong Kong Films. This dissertation is to probe into this phenomenon through the historic ways. We rediscovered the Chinese film developing history and analyzed those directors and their films which contends the old Shanghai stories or themes, then we found that Old Shanghai and Hong Kong, the twin cities had cultural, psychological connections. The two metropolitans had the same historic and social experiences; they share the same culture origins, and suffered the colony times. Thus the old Shanghai Complex in the Modem Hong Kong Films is a reasonable and interesting phenomenon which and be considered as an post-modern phenomenon that it is the result of the Memorizing trend of the whole world. Though the styles differed due to different directors, we can find those films had showed Hong Kong people 's fears of the Return to the Motherland, and it reflected the social contexts of modern Hong Kong. It mustn't be simply explained .We can draw a conclusion that the Old Shanghai is not only a place that previously we had considered as a world, like Hong Kong, old Shanghai is a place that was under the complex and colorful cultural environments, which had given the Culture business a vigorous and lively developing Social Contexts.
