Party organ is a newspaper operated by the Chinese Communist Party, it is a major media in conveying the purpose of the administration party and an important approach in ideology control. On a literature level, the party organ is political, literary, and prescriptive, and it is a platform of the dominant ideology. In addition to the reflection of the administrative requirement to the literary range, the party organ itself is a literary form which functions in many ways and deserve analysis.This thesis takes the articles about literature and literature critics as a research target (People's Daily, Literary Newspaper, 1949-1999 are mainly involved). The literature trend of different times, the specification of literature transition, and the system of party organ are considered in order to give a full view of features and influences of party organs.The basis of this research is to analyze the relationship between different forms of literature. First, this paper categorizes the influences of party organ upon prose, essay, poetry, novel, and drama. A relationship between the party organ and literature creation is revealed here.The People's Daily as a central authority paper is the most authoritative party organ which exerts the greatest influences upon the construction of ideology and the literature paradigm since the foundation of the People's Republic of China. After a general introduction of the relationship between the party organ and literature creation, this paper focuses on the influences of the People's Daily during the seventeen-year period which was divided by the anti-rightist struggle into the former-eight-year period and the latter-nine-year period with the aim of a full deep and thorough study of the relationship between the party organ and literature. Lu Xun's essays have been of great attention and praise ever since the Yan'an Period. This paper studies the relationship between the representative authors of the China Daily's like Xu Maoyong and Ba Ren etc. and Lu Xun during the seventeen-year period in order to make up the empty of the study of the relationship between the party organ and literature creation during the seventeen-year period.Every period has its own literature style and the style varies with the society. The party organ plays an important role in the transition of certain literary current since the foundation of the People's Republic of China. It reflects many literary rules and the features vary in different times. This thesis is divided into three parts according to the political variation: the seventeen-year, the 1980s and the 1990s. The functions of the party organ in the three periods are generalized: in the seventeen-year period, the establishment of literary field and advances of the peoples'creatin; the 1980s, getting rid of the stale and bringing forth the fresh style, and ideology unification; the 1990s, survey the current defend the ideology.The foreign literature works exerts ceaseless influences upon Chinese literature ever since the foundation of the People's Republic of China. The focus on foreign literature reflects the main ideology's concern about the foreign literary current and determines the foreign literature's influence during the time. In a broad view, the party organ's influence upon foreign literature's spread in China varies in different time: during the seventeen-year period, the party organ's major concern is the translation of the Soviet Union's literature work which affects Chinese literary field's attitude toward the Soviet Union. Soviet Union's literary prosperity and decline in China is deeply influenced by the party organ. This paper analyses the reason of the prosperity of the Soviet Union's literature work during the seventeen-year period and the party organ's contribution to its prosperity, at the same time the translation influences upon the reportage is also argued here.Literary critics is an important manifestation of literature. The party organ as an independent literature form, its published critical essays manifests its own distinctive features in different times and influences the critics of the same time. This paper generalized the unique development of the critic field of the seventeen-year period and after the culture revolution caused by the party organ's critics.The party organ as a substance has its own infrastructure such as editorial regulations, administrative type, and professional features, which have formed a institutional structure and exerts influences upon the literary field. Among those influences there are some positive influences such as the origin of some new literature form with great significance. However, negative influences exist too. This paper explores the existence of the positive and negative influences to the literature field, which were brought forth by the party organ from the perspective of editorial regulations.Every change of the major social ideology, literary current, and literary language is accompanied by the party organ's change of the method of its influence, therefore, before the thorough exploration of each aspects about the party organ, the method of the influence of the party organ is summarized first. First, this paper clarifies the establishment of the authority of the party organ in the literary field. Then it is taken as a clue to categorize the methodology change of the party organ in the following four periods, the seventeen-year period, the culture revolution period, the end of the culture revolution to the middle of the 1980s, and from the middle of 1980s to 1990s. From the above periods, the unstable relationship between the party organ and literature can be spotted, though the cause of the change is from the executive party, the actual influences of the relationship which is underwent by literature is various.
