The Western Template In Contemporary China Art

This research dissertation studies Contemporary China Art within the timeframe from the eighties of the 20th century to today, with the main focus on the western influence had on the development of Contemporary China Art.By using Contemporary Western art as template, Contemporary China art has been imitating Contemporary Western art in forms, ideas or cultures. This is caused by the globalization of modern world, as well as the dominant influences western culture had on the world's culture. The intimation of western art is a phenomenon not only shown in China, but also in all the developing countries. This is because the developed countries had been offering aids and models of economic development to developing countries, thus the economical, political and cultural systems of the developed countries were used as the primary reference by developing countries.Contemporary Western art was used as the template when Contemporary China art started developing. When the Cultural Revolution ended China begun to reform and opened itself to the world, the cultural changes begun to take places, and western ideals flocked into China. As reforms progressed in China and globalization sped up, Contemporary China Artists imitated, copied, emulated and transplanted Western Art in terms of forms and contents into their own works. As Contemporary China art matures and evolves, its own creativity will break the shadow that Contemporary Western art has been casting upon it and a unique form of art that emphasis on historical Chinese culture will be developed.Through studying and analyzing specific Chinese artist's works and images, this research dissertation explores how contemporary Chinese artiest imitated the works of Western Art, and later on how some of them eventually broke the shadow of Contemporary Western Art. At the same time this dissertation tries to provide scientific and insightful thoughts on Contemporary China art's future development under the current trend of globalization of today's post-.colonial world.
