When any kind of foreign culture goes into a new culture system, it always goes through an interaction and change process with the original culture.That is"indigenization".In the two kinds of culture contact and interactive process,there will always be each other sOmetimes adaptation, sometimes alienated,sometimes even filled with tension between them.If we begin from Yuan Dynasty when Catholiclsm spread into China, Catholicism experienced a long time indigenization process of 700 years in China,through modern and contemporary time of Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties.There existed an indigenization process of ambiguously ups and downs between Catholicism and the Chinese traditional culture in more than 700 years,and it left us the endless thinking and inexhaustible experlence.If we take Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties,modem Catholicism in China as three important stages of development of the indgenization, then the Catholic Church in China in the contemporary(mainly since 1949 can be regarded as the fourth phase of the indigenizaIion.Within the dramatic changes in culture under the global political and economic situation,the fourth phase of the indigenization showed entirely different characteristics by contrast from the previous three stages.through globalization,technology development,industrialization,urbanization, market—oriented utiliyzation,multi-religious dialogues. Then what kind of concrete malnifestation shape and obvious features Catholicism show in the fourth stage of development,namely contemporary, and also how to analyze and sum up this stage of indlgenlzation experlence Will be discussed and studied in tniS paper as the specific topic.Adopying a number of research ways of sociology,anthropology, etlnography,from the aspects of ideas,church-state relations,preach and service,rituals and celebration,education and heritage and many other localized levels.based on achivements on Catholic studies from other countries,especially in Taiwan,this paper entitled"Indigenization of the contemporary Catholic Church in China"takes two typical characteristics dioceses-------Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan diocese as cases,and interaction in the adjustmem and alienation between Catholicism and the contemporary Chinese society as the main thread,describes by typical figure,typical ceremony,the typical events and typical case,from small to large, from point to area, micro-and macro—expositions as one, combining the underlying views with the overall, and try to show the general picture of indigenization on the contemporar Cacholic Church in China.Anicle is divided imto four parts from macro.Part I Introduction: The main reason of the study,research topics, process of the study, subject of the paper,the issue awareness and research ideas,review academic history, research purposes and values, research methods.The second part (ChapterⅡ)is mainly from the dimension of the existence, summarizing ShiJiaZhuang diocese and TaiYuan diocese in order to further discuss later.PartⅢ(Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ,Ⅶ) is the core of the article, specifically discuss from thinking, church-state relations, preach and service, rituals and celebration, education and inheritance, etc., multidimensional.Part IV (eighth, IX) is the conclusion of the article,mainly drawing on experience and results of indigenization in other countries and regions, summarize and reflect the obtain and loss of the contemporary Catholic Church in China and put forward my own thinking.At last this paper concludes that the indigenization of the contemporary Catholic Church in China is only partial, but some areas of the grass-roots experience is worthy of our attention and carry forward.Church and political entity and society should launch pro-active and fruitful dialogue and exchanges, and the church should has always been the protagonist.the Catholic Church should take the initiative to open their hearts, open their own courage to reform, active enter into Chinese society and Chinese culture, focusing on ethics, servicing society, benefiting the people, following the example of Jesus Christ, to establish a good self-image, to play the role of the Prophet and services during the process of social modernization in contemporary China,to truly become "China's Catholic Church."...
